El catamarán griego de Iordanis Paschalidis y Konstantinos Trigonis se proclama Campeón de Europa de Fórmula 18 en la Costa Brava

The Greek catamaran of Iordanis Paschalidis and Konstantinos Trigonis European Formula 18 Champion on the Costa Brava

The Greek catamaran of the Red Bull team of Iordanis Paschalidis and Konstantinos Trigonis has today been proclaimed the Formula 18 European Champion on the Costa Brava. The second position has been for the catamaran of the Catalans Mitch Booth (of Australian origin) and Ruben Booth Ferrando of Club Vela Palamós; while the third have been the French Orion Martin and Charles Gaté.

A separate mention is worth the Australian catamaran of Brett Burvill and Max Puttman, who have held the second final position in the global computation of the F18 European Championship Costa Brava, although as a ship from another continent it did not compete for the title of champion of Europe.

The victory of the Greek boat, with Pattern Paschalidis, was already founded on the first of the five days of race, when he was placed leader, position he no longer abandoned. On the other hand, the other two podium positions have been alternating and until the last moment has not been in favour of the Spaniards. And those who have decided on the European podium on this last day have been no other than the Australians, since a complaint from them to the regatta judges against the ship of the Belgians d'Henri Demesmaeker and Morgan Wirtz - until then - has finally relegated them to the fifth position.

Unlike the four days before, in which the prevailing wind was the thermal, in the last day of today, the gregal has blown with force in the race field located on the beach of the Cortal de la Devesa de Sant Pere Pescador.

The F18 European Championship has had the participation of 74 catamarans and 148 regatists from 18 countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Denmark, Spain, the United States, Finland, France, Gran Bretan, Greece, Netherlands, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Poland and Switzerland. This is the first time that the Costa Brava has hosted the best Formula 18 catamarans in the world.

The championship is organized by the Club de Vela La Ballena Alegre, the Club Nàutic L'Pesca and the Real Federación Española de Vela, in collaboration with the Catalan Federation of Vela and the National Secretariat of the Catamaran Class (ADETA). Apart from the second position of the Catalan crew of Club Vela Palamós, which is the current Formula 18 champion of the Spanish Cup, a victory they won just two weeks ago on the same stage, there were 13 other catamarans in the Spanish fleet.

04 / 07 / 2018: Hard conditions of sea and wind mark the final line of the European F18

La última jornada será decisiva para ver quien se adjudica la victoria en el primer F18 European Championship

The last day will be decisive to see who wins the first F18 European Championship

The F18 European Championship Costa Brava reaches its final line with much equality between the catamarans who occupy the positions of head. After a day, today's day, with thermal winds that have blown at a speed of up to 20 knots and with many abandoned in the last of the three disputed trials, tomorrow's races are so decisive to direct the championship podium.

Weather forecasts have been met and the wind on the beach of the Cortal de la Devesa de Sant Pere Pescador has been increasing in intensity as the day progressed. After two tests in which crews have had to adapt to an increasingly stirred sea, in the third, 24 catamarans of the 74 in competition have been forced to leave. Only the expertise of the crews and the professionalism and purpose of the race committee have allowed it to be completed.

Mal would have to go to the Greek catamaran of the Red Bull team of Iordanis Paschalidis and Konstantinos Trigonis in order not to proclaim itself the Formula 18 European Champion. Less decided are the second, third and fourth positions in the classification. They are disputed by the catamaran of the Catalans Mitch Booth (of Australian origin) and Ruben Booth Ferrando, of the Club Vela Palamós (seconds provisionally) and two Belgian catamarans, that of Henri Demesmaeker and Morgan Wirtz (third) and Patrick Demesmaeker and Gilles Tas (fourth).

A separate mention is worth the Australian catamaran of Brett Burvill and Max Puttman who hold second position in the global computation, although as a ship from another continent it does not compete for the title of champion of Europe.

03 / 07 / 2018: The European of F18 Costa Brava reaches its equator with equality from Greece, Belgium and Spain

We arrived at the equator of the F18 European Championship Costa Brava and there are only three days left to meet the winners. On this third day of official competition, three trials have been held, with nine already taken and the regatists have been able to rule out one - the worst of them.

The great protagonist of today's trials has been the catamaran of the Spanish Mitch Booth and Ruben Booth Ferrando, of Club Vela Palamós. Father and son have won a first, second and fifth positions that have consolidated them in the third position of the championship, ahead of the Australian catamaran of Brett Burvill and Max Puttman, although as a ship from another continent it does not compete for the title of European champion.

The rachas of more than 15 knots of wind that have blown today in the regatta field of the beach of the Cortal de la Devesa de Sant Pere Pescador, in front of the La Ballena Alegre campsite, have made the crew's delights and provided spectacular moments on the water.

In front of the provisional general classification of the F18 European Championship Costa Brava, follows the Greek catamaran of the Red Bull team of Iordanis Paschalidis and Konstantinos Trigonis, which today has harvested a 5th, a 3rd and a 1st place. Second is the catamaran of Belgian Henri Demesmaeker and Morgan Wirtz (27th, 1st and 3rd today).

The differences between the first three are minimal and the next three days of race, in which a change in the direction of the wind that can give a turn to the navigation, will be decisive to see who wins in the first F18 European Championship to be disputed in Catalonia.

02 / 07 / 2018: Belgium rides the two day in Barcelona and threatens the Greek leadership of the European F18

Entre la flota española, cabe destacar la meritoria décima posición que ocupa el catamarán de las jóvenes promesas Jordi Booth -hijo de Mitch- y Joan Costa

Among the Spanish fleet, it is worth noting the tenth position of the catamaran of the young promises Jordi Booth - the son of Mitchell - and Joan Costa

The Belgian catamaran of Henri Demesmaeker and Morgan Wirtz has been the main protagonist of the second day of the race of the F18 European Championship Costa Brava. The Belgians have won in two of the three trials held today on the beach of the Cortal de la Devesa de Sant Pere Pescador and have also won a sixth place.

The crew of the catamaran BEL-3, with the talented Henri Demesmaeker pattern, has been the one who best read the thermal wind with an average of 10 knots that has blown into the race field of the championship. Despite being only 20 years old, Demesmaeker has several world and European championships in different sailing classes - the last one in Nacra15 last April in Barcelon-. It is the fact that in this F18 European Championship also competes his father, Patrick, in another catamaran that today has been sixth.

This great performance has allowed the BEL-3 catamaran to reach the second provisional square, behind the Greek catamaran of the Red Bull team of Iordanis Paschalidis and Konstantinos Trigonis, which remains leader after harvesting today two seconds and a fifth position in the three trials disputed.

The third place is for the Australian catamaran of Brett Burvill and Max Puttman (3rd, 5th and 7th today), although as a ship from another continent it does not compete for the title of champion of Europe. Thus, the third - fourth in the general - position remains for the Catalans Mitch Booth (of Australian origin) and Ruben Booth Ferrando of Club Vela Palamós.

The F18 European Championship, which is held until Thursday, July 5 on the beach of the Cortal de la Devesa de Sant Pere Pescador, opposite the campsite La Ballena Alegre, has the participation of 74 catamarans and 148 regatists from 18 countries: Germany, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Be lgica, Denmark, Spain, the United States, Finland, France, Gran Bretan, Greece, Netherlands, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Poland and Switzerland.

The Greek catamaran of the Red Bull team of Iordanis Paschalidis and Konstantinos Trigonis leads the provisional classification of the F18 European Championship Costa Brava after the first day of regatta. Secondly, the Australian catamaran of Brett Burvill and Max Puttman has been located and the third place in the provisional classification has been for the Catalans Mitch Booth (of Australian origin) and Ruben Booth Ferrando of Club Vela Palamós.

Each of the three tests consisted of two turns to the route and the strategy has decided the results. Those who have best read the thermal wind that has blown in the Bay of Roses have been the Greek catamaran of the Red Bull team, who have harvested a first, a third and a fifth positions that have raised him in front of the provisional ranking of the championship. Paschalidis began sailing when he was only 9 years old and has been a member of the Greek sailing team since 1985. After them, the Australian catamaran of Burvill and Puttman has harvested a third, a second and a ninth place, which places them seconds.

The best Spanish catamaran classified, in addition to the third that is of Australian origin, - there are 14 in competition out of a total of 74 ships from 18 different countries - is that of Mitch Booth and Ruben Booth, who have obtained a fifth, an eighth and a second place that places them as third parties. The Catalan crew of Club Vela Palamós is the current Formula 18 champion of the Spanish Cup, a victory they won just two weeks ago on the same stage.
