The "GS1" of Fernando Alonso, the absolute winner of the 20th edition of the Isastur- University of Oviedo Regata, was also the best in class I... in class II, the win was won by the Espumeru, with Roberto Fernández in the cane... as is traditional the race was organized with remarkable success by the Real Club Astur de Regatas.

The university race began on Saturday shortly after 3: 30 in the afternoon in Gijón Bay with a barlovento-sotavento tour of about 12 miles. The strong wind that would blow throughout the day led to the withdrawal by break of the defender of the race, the Taxus MedioAmbiente, by Alfredo Flórez, a circumstance that Roberto Bucetas, on board the University of Oviedo- Grupo Isastur to win the first manga. The second position would be for the GS1, by Fernando Alonso, followed by the Andantino, by Raúl Menéndez.

In class II, the triumph in the first manga would be for the Ita II, of Pedro Guerra, while, the Espumeru, of Roberto Fernández would end in second position, only 21 seconds from the first classified. The third square was occupied by the Leonidas, by Juan Manuel Quevedo.

However, on Sunday the race began at 13: 05, on the same stage and similar tour to the previous day, although the wind would blow a little softer than on the opening day. The GS1, by Fernando Alonso, made a good exit at the head of the fleet, gradually distanced himself from his persecutors by crossing the line of arrival first with enough time to win the test and then the race. The second square was for the University ship, the second also in the general. The third position of the day was obtained by the Orbayu, by Miguel Suárez. For its part, the Andantino, of Raúl Menéndez fifth in the manga, would finish third of the class.

The Espumeru, by Roberto Fernández, made an excellent tour winning the manga and consequently the race in class II. El Leonidas, by Juan Manuel Quevedo would end second in the test and third in the general classification. For his part, the Ita II, of Pedro Guerra third in the day, won the subchampionship.

With the celebration of the I Memorial Daniel Ponte, the organization of the race has wanted to pay a small tribute to this excellent regatist, no doubt a reference of the Asturian candle for many years (Felix G.Muñiz)

Organized by the University of Oviedo in conjunction with the Real Club Astur de Regatas, this weekend will be held in Gijón, the XX Regata Isastur- University of Oviedo, I Memorial Daniel Ponte.

Tomorrow at three and a half in the afternoon, in the waters of San Lorenzo Bay, the signal of attention will be given to the first manga of the trophy, a barlovento-sotavento tour of approximately 12 miles. On Sunday the test will start at 13: 00, under a route similar to Saturday.

Two groups are established: Class I and II, with an individual classification and a joint general, therefore, there will be an absolute winner in the competition. The bulk of the Gijonese fleet is expected to be present in one of the most traditional races in the Principality of Asturias.

The boat to be beaten will be the Taxus MedioAmbiente, by Alfredo Flórez absolute winner and class I in the last edition. In Class II the triumph was for the recently deceased, Daniel Ponte, patron of the Espumeru.
