The three best teams of the In-Port Series of the Volvo Ocean Race demonstrated the reasons for their dominance in the current edition on the Cardiff coast, with "Dongfeng Race Team," "Mapfre" and "Team Brunel" copying podium positions.
The general leader of the In-Port Series, the "Mapfre" of Xabi Fernández, limited the possible damage to the classification with a second meritorious position, while the "Brunel" team of Bouwe Bekking battled throughout the race to secure the third place.
The first dyed saw a great division in the fleet, with team AkzoNobel of Simeon Testipont leading the battle in the first barlovent thanks to his bet on the left side of the race field; the MAPHRE, who bet on the right, lost some positions and had to put the work monkey in order to carry out the rebound.
The Akzonobel held well until the equator of the test, but the Dongfeng Race Team of Caudrelier managed to advance them in a sotavento and faced the last head-girded, knowing to perfectly hold the lead during the final line of the sleeve.
In fact, it was a very painful moment for AkzoNobel, who was relegated to fourth place, as it was first advanced by the MAPHRE and later by the Brunel in the last stern. The 11th Hour Racing was able to remount after its bad departure and ended up in the fifth place ahead of David Witt's SHK / Scallywag and the Turn the Tide on Plastic de Dee Caffari.
