The Ecomar and Volvo Cars Foundation start the "We Care for the Sea" campaign in Vigo
In conjunction with World Environment Day, on June 5, Volvo Cars, the premium vehicle manufacturer and the Ecomar Foundation, a pioneer in the cleaning of coasts with children, began their collaboration 2018 to clean coasts throughout the Spanish coast.
This first day of cleaning, of the four that will be carried out, took place in the town of Pontevedresa of Canido, with the collaboration of the Club Marítimo de Canido, the participation of employees, family members and customers of Volvo, and of a group of 30 students of the Divino Salvador school, aged between 11 and 13 years, as training in schools and their active participation in the cleaning days are a fundamental part of the project. 45 kilos of waste were collected, which was then taken to the recycling plant by the City Council.
During the day, Theresa Zabell, the double Olympic sailing champion, and president of the Ecomar Foundation, gave a recycling workshop to remember the types of waste there, and the color of the container to use, and it influenced the importance that it has "protect the coast from the garbage that comes from the sea, because of man's leave on earth, such as cans, plastics, butts and glass... Zabell thanked Volvo for his collaboration... not only in these specific coastal cleaning actions, but also for his complicity in the cleaning of our oceans through the Clean Seas program and his involvement in the Volvo Ocean Race Regatta."
This new Volvo Cars action reflects once again the active support for the Clean Seas campaign of the United Nations Environment Programme and its efforts to minimize its global environmental impact. The company was also recently announcing its decision to remove single-use plastics from all its events and offices (including cafés) internationally by the end of 2019... apart of this initiative, Volvo Cars has donated 300,000 euros to support the scientific program of the Volvo Ocean Race... and several of the ships participating in the 2018- 2019 edition of the race are equipped with sensors that capture data on the health of the marine ecosystem... in addition to the sales of special edition vehicles V90 Cross Country Volvo Ocean Race have contributed to this support... andin 2017, Volvo Cars announced its commitment to electrification, announcing that all new models launched from 2019 will be electrified... por another, in the operations, the objective of Volvo Cars is that its manufacturing processes have no impact on the climate... as early as January of this year, the Skövde factory, Sweden, became its first factory without impact on the climate.
