The Spanish Cup of J80 strengthens the calendar of the Maritime of the Abra 2018
The Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club, with an experience of 120 years organizing races, takes stock of what is going on in the season and what is remaining this 2018. So far, they have already been disputed: the I Social Trophy, the V El Correo Trophy, the I One Sails Trophy, the Two Regatta and the massive Inverse-BBVA Regatta of last May 1 won by the 'Biobizz'. The Guadalimar Trophy and the José Luis Azqueta Trophy have been held in light sailing.
For the month of June, one of the strong dishes of the monotypes season comes... first with the J80 Bizkaia Championship and then from June 21 to 24 with the J80 Spanish Cup. A splendid appetizer for the 2019 World Championship that will be held in Vizcaya waters by the hand of the Abra Maritime. It will be the third edition in which a World Cup of the participatory and competitive class J 80 is held in the country's waters, with the Royal Maritime Club of Santander in 2009 and the Nautical Club of Bevelle (Sotogrande) in 2016 as predecessors in the organization of the world title in these monotypes. They are expected to take part in between 70 and 100 vessels. "In 2019 will also be held the commemoration of the V Centenary of the first round of the world of Juan Sebastián Elcano with a regatta to Getaria in July and other events that are in the organizational phase", advanced Ramón Zubiaga, president of the Royal Maritime Club of the Abra-Real Sporting Club.
On June 9, the 14th SURNE- 54th Eskarra Trophy will take place, and on June 30 and July 1, the always interesting and participatory Bizkaia de Crucieros- Achinaga Trophy Championship will take place. Before, the vine fleet will have taken part in Santander waters in the 19th Regata S.A.R. Don Felipe de Borbón and in the Santander- Getxo. The new race between Getxo and Lekeitio, organized next to the Lekeitio tuna fishing club, appears on July 7; and by July 20, 21 and 22 the dates of the XXVII Costa Vasca race have been reserved, with the crews in search of the longed Golden Whale in Hondarribia. On that weekend, the historic Gitana Cup for classic and epoch ships is also celebrated. Then, in early August, the Club will be setting one more year from the departure of the El Gaitero Regata. In September, it is the turn of another historic, the Castro Cup, as well as the Getxo Cup. And in December he disappoints the ever-awaited Regata del Gallo with about 70 ships passing under the Pendant Bridge of Bizkaia (this year on December 15).
As for light sailing, the Royal Maritime Club of the Abra-Real Sporting Club will organize in September 2018 the XXVIII edition of the Artea Trophy-School of Sailing José Luis Ugarte with about 200 participants in the Abra. The purpose of the Sailing School of the Royal Maritime Club of the Abr- Real Sporting Club, for which nearly a thousand young people spend a year, is to promote and teach this sport from the age of eight. It is an extension that is intended to extend to the entire province and to all social areas in response to the traditional union between the sea and the people of the environment. The Bizkaia Championship, the President Trophy, the Eduardo Erecacho Trophy and the Christmas Trophy also remain to be held.
