"Gaitero" and "Lasai" are imposed in the A2 Sailing Regata in Getxo
After several years without a dispute, the Dos Regata returned to the calendar of the Royal Maritime Club of the Abra-Real Sporting Club. The organizing committee scheduled a 24-mile tour that was completed with a loose north-west wind of 6 to 10 knots, and after which they defeated the "Gaitero 'of Juan Valdivia in the Regata class and the" Lasai' of Gonzalo Arnal in Cruciero.
The 'Gaitero' ended up in front of the 'Rat Pack' of Javier-varri, classified second, and the 'Mingus' of Jon Garai. Meanwhile, the 'Lasai' was imposed in the Cruise Class 2 on the 'Nexus' of Javier Trueba and the 'hang Loose' of Iñigo Axpe. The test, in which each vessel was composed only of two crew members, is one of the most demanding of a calendar that awaits the great dates of the season in the Abra.
17 / 05 / 2018: Return the Regata A Two to Sailing in Getxo, which was created by Ugarte in the 80's
After several years without celebration, the two-way race returns to the calendar of the Royal Maritime Club of the Abra-Real Sporting Club. After the successful and massive Inversa-BBVA and I Trophy One Sails, return to the Club de Las Arenas program a quote in which, depending on the intensity and direction of the wind this Saturday, the organizing committee will prepare a 40-mile race in which it will sail to Laredo or Plentzia.
The test, in which each vessel will be composed only of two crew members, is one of the most demanding. Before it was carried out to the island of Mouro and now, on its return to the Cantabrian, the tour will be half a mile. The regatists pursue the triumph in an event that serves as an appetizer to the juicy part of the calendar.
The great José Luis Ugarte was accompanied in his memory by a few legends and no less anecdotes... he told me a few years ago at a meal, in the company of his wife, that by sailing in the South Atlantic he received a call on board an English, who said: "Be very careful that in front of you there is an iceberg of a hundred pairs of balls...." Ugarte replied to him, "How is an iceberg... is Antarctica!..."
At that unforgettable lunch at the Tavern of the Royal Nautical Club of Vigo I asked... José Luis has told me that you designed the tour of Regata A dos in a very Basque way... The Arenas- Fastnet Rock Er- The Sands... and that no one showed up on the way out... laughed a lot and didn't tell me if that was the story... César Renedo (the Renedolari of the Maritime) had been the accountant of the anecdote... which I fear is strictly true... were the years of Ugarte as the Commodore of the Maritime... and that is that not all the regatists were as much from Bilbao as the Great Master of the Solitaire Navigators...
