Success of the Gala de la Vela Galician chaired by Don Juan Carlos in Sanxenxo

The President of the Xunta closed the event, who thanked Don Juan Carlos for "being able to navigate anywhere in the world has chosen Sanxenxo and Galicia"
The Gala de la Vela Galician did not let down. Sponsored by Movistar, the Concello de Sanxenxo and Mahou, it met the expectations of assistance by registering an absolute full in the living room of the Royal Nautical Club of Sanxenxo, with more than two hundred people despite the bad weather, and turned the municipality into a sailing capital.
The assistance of His Majesty King Juan Carlos and the Infanta Doña Elena, project director of the Mapfre Foundation, both to collect prizes of enormous sports and social scope, coinciding with recognition of other champions of the world, caused the national candle to put the spotlight on this gala.
If for the president of the Galician Vela Federation, Manuel Villaverde, the event has coincided "with a magnificent year for both light and cruise sailing"the federal leader's commitment goes beyond: "This party must serve as a permanent meeting point for a modality that has historically given great regatists and successes to Galician sport."
There were many emotional moments in this gala conducted by the television presenter Terio Carrera. Since the award to the crew of the six-meter "Bribón Movistar" sponsored by Don Juan Carlos and with whom in Vancouver they sailed Pedro Campos, Alberto Viejo and Roi Alvarez to win the world title, to the very reception by Pablo Cabello of the Royal Nautical Club of Vigo from the trophy to the best regatist of Vaien... by the hands of Campos, the first Spanish champion of the world of the class in 1976 in Monaco. Cabello also picked up that of his crew, Javier Lago, who was unable to attend.
The Infanta Elena collected from the president of the autonomous government the prize for the work that Mapfre has done in Sanxenxo, the National Centre of Adjusted Sailing, while the president of the Galician gave a souvenir to the widow of the worker of the Galego de Vela Center who died last year.
Among the winners, one very special for the entire family of the Galician candle: Emilio Méndez, sports director of the Club Marítimo de Canido... one of the youngest veterans who is behind the curtain, always with the youngest, since the 1980s... congratulations for Manolo Villaverde for having the detail of our partner in NAUTICA DIGITAL, in the SEMANA ABANCA and the WORLD OF THE SER MASTER 2018... BRAVO EMILIO!, these are some of the photographs of this very emotional day for Emilio Mendez...
