"Mapfre" arrives fifth in Itajai and "Dongfeng" will lead the Volvo in Brazil
"Mapfre" arrives fifth in Itajai and "Dongfeng" will lead the Volvo in Brazil
He could not keep his lead the "Mapfre," which crossed the line of arrival in Itajai in early Sunday. The Volvo Ocean Race is being very hard, and especially this seventh stage between New Zealand and Brazil, in which "Team Brunel" has been the winner, ahead of the new leader the French-Chinese ship "Dongfeng" and the "AzkoNobel." The last two squares of which they managed to finish for "Turn The Tide on Plastic" and our representatives... to which had to be added two retired ships, first the "Scalway" because of the known misfortune of the death of one of their crew and the "Vestas" that had to enter Malvinas to repair, the break of their mast. With these results the overall classification of the Volvo Ocean Race with seven acts consumed and in the absence of four, is as follows:
07 / 04 / 2018: The "TTT Plastic" arrives in Itajai with what "Mapfre" loses the lead in the Volvo
The fourth ship arrived at the Brazilian port of Itajai, so the "Mapfre" has provisionally said goodbye to the Volvo Ocean Race, in favor of the French-Chinese ship "Dongfeng" that has overcome it in the general. For its part the Spanish ship continues just under 200 miles from crossing the line of arrival... a navigation that when in Spain is 13: 30 is being complicated by the lack of wind, even though throughout the day to be raised to be a north-east of 10 knots... plus the Spanish ship has a lack of food, for the excess of days of navigation in race... so it has been necessary to rationalize what is available.
05 / 04 / 2018: "AkzoNobel" the third in Itajai... "Mapfre" more than 500 miles from the arrival

It is the third consecutive podium for the team of Simeon Testipont, which places him in fourth place in the general, just three points from Team Brunel
Simeon Tespont's "AkzoNobel team" has completed the podium at Stage 7 of the Volvo Ocean Race by confirming the third place in Itajai, which is the third consecutive podium, which places him in the fourth place in the general, just three points from Team Brunel.
At 11: 00 on Thursday night the tail of this seventh stage of the Volvo, they are still occupied by "Turn The Tride on Plastic" which is 243 miles from the line of arrival, and the "Mapfre," which is missing no less than 560 nautical miles to complete it. The very soft wind, between 3 and 5 knots, for the first of the two of the east, while for the Spaniards it is north.
04 / 04 / 2018: "AkzoNobel" near being third while "Mapfre" is still far behind in the Volvo
"Team AkzoNobel" is just over 70 miles from getting the third position of the dramatic Stage 7... more than 420 miles by its stern, "Turn the Tide on Plastic" escapes from "Mapfre" in the battle for the fourth square... the Spanish ship is very far... more than 670 miles from the arrival. The three sails slow down by a high pressure system that will delay their arrival in Itajai... the wind right now for the tail of the 6 to 10 knots north race... Except miracle "Dongfeng" is the new leader of the Volvo Ocean Race.
03 / 04 / 2018: The leader of "Mapfre" in the Volvo in danger to Itajai "Brunel" and "Dongfeng"
About five in the afternoon in Spain he crossed the line of arrival in Itahai "the" Brunel "ahead of just over a mile of the French-Chinese ship, in the middle of very soft winds... back as the TV broadcast indicates is" AkzoNobel "262 miles, as well as" TTO Plastic "just over 700 and our representative the" Mapfre "about 800 miles... The Spanish ship needs yes or yes, to overcome its predecessor and cross in Brazilian waters in fourth place, but will have lost the lead in the general of this exciting Volvo Ocean Race.
03 / 04 / 2018: "Brunel" and "Dongfeng" 7 miles from Itajai as a race to match...
This stage ends with two ships fighting the unthinkable 7 miles to the arrival... almost match-race... "Brunel" and "Dongfeng" are playing it for many miles, in which at many times they have had visual contact... the winds of the south-west of 8 knots... with a "Mapfre" to almost 800 miles!... victory is much more important to the French-Chinese... and is that the Volvo Ocean Race is already being a pulse between the two "red" ships... Itajai in sight!!!...
02 / 04 / 2018: Volvo: "Brunel" and "Dongfeng" are already very close to Itajai... 250 miles away
South-east winds of about 20 knots for the mandons of this seventh act of the Volvo Ocean Race: "Brunel" and "Dongfeng..." that follow in a circle of 6 miles, when the Brazilian port of Itajai is almost in sight: 250 miles!!! The third in discord is still the "AkzoNobel," which has winds of the same component but softer: 15 knots... to close the "Turn The Tide on Plastic" to about 600 miles, and even further back almost a hundred miles, the "Mapfre." The speed of the head ships is in the 20 knots and those of tail in the half: just 10. This is the situation at 10: 00 p.m. in peninsular Spain. Arrivals will start in hours... maybe around 10: 00 on Tuesday, 3.
02 / 04 / 2018: "Brunel" is still the leader of the Volvo and is already only 500 miles from Itajai
Winds from 15 to 20 knots in the south-east lead to a good speed (to those head to 22 knots) towards Itajai, which is already for the two ships that lead this seventh stage of the Volvo Ocean Race just over 500 miles. "Brunel" and "Dongfeng" continue their fight for victory in the stage with an already far away "AkzoNobel" (215 miles), and the other two survivors more than 400 miles away: "Turn The Tide on Plastic" and "Mapfre."
01 / 04 / 2018: "Brunel" and "Dongfeng" are fighting for victory in the Volvo towards Itajai
Winds of 11 knots of southern component accompany the survivors of the Volvo Ocean Race, when 950 miles to Itajai in Brazil. Without changes in the head of the race, with a very strong "Brunel," but that does not manage to get the "Dongfeng" out of his stern that is still very tight: about four miles between the Dutch and the French-Chinese. Later the "AzkoNobel" who seeks a mistake from those before him, sails alone 50 miles, and later 180 the "Turn The Tide on Plastic..." super retarded our representatives who are closer to 300 miles than the last report, and who struggle to reach at least the fifth square, to avoid a greater bleeding of points in the general... we are a couple of days away from entering cariac waters.
31 / 03 / 2018: "Vestas" enters Port Stanley to repair and join the Volvo in Itajai
The "Team Vestas 11th Hour Racing" is currently working on several logistic scenarios to rejoin the fleet in Itajai... the VO65 was entering Port Stanley a few minutes ago, in order to repair..."It's a challenge... it's all a challenge", declared team member Stacey Jackson... "Whether you're competing, bearing the hardness of the climate, fighting the elements or serious setbacks like this... I think the lesson of this race, is that it's about overcoming the difficulties always, however hard they are..."
"Brunel" when they are in Spain the 4.30 hours is still in command of the fleet, pursued by "Dongfeng" in a handkerchief, third in discord is the "AkzoNobel" at about 60 miles, closing "Turn The Tride on Plastic" at over 140 miles and "Mapfre" at about 200... with winds in these moments of the south-west of 25 knots... the ships sail at a speed between 13 and 24 knots. Itajai is 1500 nautical miles away.
31 / 03 / 2018: "Mapfre" in search of the miracle in a Volvo in which "Brunel" and "Dongfeng" command
At the edge of 12: 00 in the morning of Holy Saturday it is impressive how the "Mapfre" has approached the head, as it is located just under 200 miles from a "Brunel" that follows as a leader, but with "Dongfeng" just three miles away. Obviously for the Spaniards this is the worst scenario, that is if the Chinese franc ship manages to impose on the Dutch and manage to relegate "Mapfre" to the fifth square will have greatly shortened the differences... The third is a "AkzoNobel" 60 miles away and behind them the "Turn The Tide on Plastic" 110 miles away. The winds at this time of 15 knots west component... and the fleet sailing between 18 and 22 knots.
30 / 03 / 2018: "Vestas" breaks its mast 100 miles south-west of Malvinas and leaves the Volvo
Last minute news on the Volvo Ocean Race. The American ship "Vestas" in which the Coruñés Chuny Bermudez de Castro sailed in the sixth stage, when he was in the south-east of the Malvinas Islands, about 100 miles away, saw his mast coming down. At that time the waves were just over three meters, and the wind was 25 to 30 knots. He has reported the VOR-65, that the crew is entirely in perfect condition, and that the ship by its means is headed for the British colony... has obviously left the seventh stage.
30 / 03 / 2018: "Mapfre" loses 13 hours and is trying the miracle after joining the Volvo

The leader of the provisional general rejoined the competition this morning after completing a quick and effective "pit stop" in the vicinity of the Horn Cape in which he repaired his damaged candle and the major car... the fleet escapes towards Malvinas, but "Mapfre" is determined to recover the lost land.
The repair, which cost "Mapfre" to suspend the navigation for about 13 hours, left the Spanish ship 260 miles from its rivals, led by "Team Brunel." The latest position report shows the Dutch ship 1,600 miles from the finish line in Itajai, Brazil. "Mapfre" had already scheduled a possible technical stop to repair the major car, for which he sent three members of his ground team to the Cape Horn area. But it was the break of his candle a few miles from the most famous Cape of the tour that forced them to perform the pit stop.
In the last hour of Good Friday when the wind is almost north with a speed of 25 to 30 knots, the Dutch ship sails more than 18 knots south of the Malvinas, being located 1600 miles from the line of arrival. After "Brunel" in the around 30 miles, by this order the French-Chinese "Dongfeng" and the American "Vestas..." AkzoNobel "is the fourth about 50 miles from the head, and" Turn The Tide on Plastic "about 70.. closing the fleet" Mapfre, "which sails at 11 knots at this time, at no less than about 260 miles from the Dutch..." Mapfre "is fighting for the miracle.
29 / 03 / 2018: "Mapfre" delivers the stage when you enter to repair the Volvo and lose a full day
Mapfre, leader of the Provisional General of the Volvo Ocean Race, has suspended navigation a few miles from doubling out of Furnaces and is heading to the ground to repair its mast... Five days ago, a section of the ship's major car took off from the Spanish Volvo Ocean 65 mast, forcing the crew to make an emergency repair in order to continue sailing in the harsh conditions of the South Ocean. The excellent work carried out by the regatists allowed the red ship to regain the rhythm of its rivals and to reach the vicinity of Cabo de Hornos in the fourth position of Stage 7.
But when only six miles were left for the ship of Xabi Fernández to double the most famous Cape in the world, at 18: 32h UTC (20: 32h in Peninsular Spain) the Basque pattern reported that they suspended the navigation to make a more thorough repair of the car and of the major candle itself. Three members of the "Mapfre" ground team were waiting for them in the area to help in the operation.
The rules of the Volvo Ocean Race indicate that a team that suspends the navigation can use its engine, receive external assistance or embark equipment for repair. The penalty associated with this suspension means that the ship must remain out of regatta at least 12 hours, returning to the same point where it suspended the navigation in order to be able to retake it.
Time of passage by the end length of Furnaces:
Team Brunel - - 13: 01 UTC (Team Brunel scores a point)
Vestas 11th Hour Racing - - 15: 01 UTC
Dongfeng Race Team - - 15: 45 UTC
Team AkzoNobel - -17: 22 UTC
Turn the Tide on Plastic - - 17: 35 UTC
Mapfre - - (suspended navigation west of Cape Horn)
Sun Hung Kai / Scallywag - - (stopped navigation)
29 / 03 / 2018: "Brunel" reigns out of Furnaces and maintains the tulip domain in the Volvo

The pattern Bouwe Bekking and the navigator Andrew Cape pull of veteran to take Team Brunel to complete the South Ocean and fold Cape Horn in first position
With winds above 30 knots the Dutch boat "Brunel" doubled the legendary Horn Cape at three o'clock on Holy Thursday, scoring a valuable point to its provisional locker. "Vestas 11th Hour Racing" leads the group of five ships chasing "Team Brunel..." occupying "Mapfre" fourth position about 70 nautical miles from the head.
As the fleet passes from the South Ocean to the Atlantic out of Hornos, Team Sun Hung Kai / Scallywag continues to advance towards the West coast of Chile, with a forecast of reaching land early next week.
28 / 03 / 2018: "Brunel" is away from the rest of the Volvo fleet that tomorrow will double Furnaces
"Team Sun Hung Kai / Scallywag" has not yet confirmed the exact point of destination, but the western coast of Chile is the closest point to the position of the ship, and the safest to sail in the very harsh weather conditions they pass through. The tragedy will take a long time to be assumed, and throughout the fleet sadness reigns.
The six ships that are still competing in this seventh stage of the Volvo Ocean Race with the end in Itaji, continue to advance at a good pace towards the Horn. At six o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Bouwe Bekking's "Team Brunel" has managed to extend his leadership to 65 miles on his immediate persecute, now "Vestas 11th Hour Racing..." "Mapfre" continues to recover positions and is now third, just one mile ahead of "Dongfeng Race Team," which has opted for a more south position: Danish, Spanish and Chinese sail tablets in just 20 miles, with "Turn the Tide on Plastic" and "Team AkzoNobel" 30 miles back.
The six boats in the race have had to negotiate wind raches above the 40 knots accompanied by huge waves as they sail aft into Cape Horn, where the South Ocean is tucked in the narrow passage between South America and Antarctica. The current forecast indicates that the fleet will begin to double out of Furnaces around noon (UTC) tomorrow, Thursday, which will mean leaving the South Ocean and returning to the Atlantic.
27 / 03 / 2018: The Volvo Ocean Race is in mourning for the tragic disappearance of John Fisher
Richard Brisius, president of Volvo Ocean Race, has appeared before the media to declare visibly affected by the tragedy: "It is extremely sad for me to report this morning that one of our regatists, John Fisher, of Team Sun Hung Kai / Scallywag, has been given as missing on the high seas... this is tearing for all of us... as regatists and organizers of the race, losing a crew member at sea is a tragedy we never want to consider... we are devastated, and our thoughts are with John's family, friends and teammates."
The team "Sun Hung Kai / Scallywag" carried out a thorough search for several hours in extreme weather conditions, but was unable to recover his partner. Given the low water temperature and the state of the sea, together with the time that has passed since it fell overboard, we must assume that John has not survived at sea.
The fleet has at the edge of the 15.30 Spanish hour winds more than 25 knots north-west and is located about 2780 miles from Itajai in Brazil, where the line of arrival of this seventh stage is installed. Follow the "Brunel" command, ahead of "Dongfeng" and "Vestas," while the "Mapfre" is fourth over 50 miles away... the Spanish ship is weighing a scale near the Sabo de Hornos (could be the Puerto Williams) to repair its problems in the greater that are keeping it away from the first square. They close the Thurn The Tide on Plastic fleet and the "AkzoNobel" which is already more than 70 miles away... the "Scallywg" has withdrawn.
26 / 03 / 2018: In the water a crew member of the "Scallywag" of the Volvo in which "Brunel" dominates

In the sports news say that "Brunel" is still a leader and is about 3,000 miles from the arrival line, followed by "Vestas" 34 miles and "Dongfeng" just over 40... in the 50 nautical miles are "Turn The Tide on Plastic" and "Mapfre," closing the fleet about 60 miles... the "Scallywag" has left the race and is looking for the lost crew, who fell to the sea with their protective suit
Last hour: the crew member lost by the "Scallywag" is the British John Fisher
The attention of the entire Ocean Race Volvo Organization is in the seventh stage colist: the "Team Sun Hung Kai / Scallywag," which has had "man in the water..." the incident took place approximately 1,400 nautical miles west of Cape Horn... the wind in the incident area is west component and 35 knots of intensity, accompanied by thick sea; the water temperature is 9 degrees centigrade. Due to the temporary hard conditions in the area, no option has been considered to divert any of the other six competing ships on the Volvo Ocean Race (which are at least 200 miles further east and with a stern wind over the SHK / Scallywag position) to participate in the search operation. The MRCC has identified a ship approximately 400 nautical miles from the SHK / Scallywag position, which is already heading for the incident site.
Water man at Team Sun Hung Kai / Scallywag
The Race Control (Regata Control) of the Volvo Ocean Race has been informed by the SHK / Scallywag of a man in the water, which occurred around 13: 42h UTC (14: 42h Spanish peninsular time) on Monday, March 26. The team, together with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), has launched the search and rescue operation to recover the lost crew, John Fisher (United Kingdom), who at the time of the incident was wearing the regulatory survival team.
25 / 03 / 2018: The problems of the Mapfre relegate it to the fifth and "Brunel" now commands in the Volvo
"Mapfre" with problems in the major's lane, has lost the place of privilege he had at midnight. The new leader of the 7th-stage Volvo Ocean Race is the "Brunel" which is literally flying over 22 knots, clogged by winds of 25 to 28 knots of southwest component. About 25 miles by their stern, they are in this order... but in any case very close between them the "Dongfeng," "Vestas" and "Turn The Tide on Plastic..." just over 40 miles away are ours that have 10 miles to the "AkzoNobel," and close the platoon the "Scallywag" to almost 140 miles. The line of arrival is already 3,800 miles.
24 / 03 / 2018: "Mapfre" at the limit of the exclusion zone recovers the Volvo leadership
"Mapfre" and "Turn The Tide on Plastic" already around midnight in Spain when the winds that accompany the seventh delivery of the Volvo with the end in Brazil approach the 27 knots of the south-west component, are the ones that send in the fleet and with some advantage. The Spaniards are the first and have their unexpected partner in the leadership a mile away. "Brunel" is the third one over 15 miles. It is surprising that he now closes the platoon, the "Scallywag" about 130 miles away! The move to choose to sail to the limit those who send now, went out to the thousand wonders... and in the case of the "Mapfre" despite the failure that has communicated to the regatta management... that they have damage in their lane of the major...
23 / 03 / 2018: At midnight with winds of about 30 knots in the Volvo "Dongfeng" command

The sixth day of Stage 7 of the Volvo Ocean Race began with a reorganisation of the classification in which Mapfre and Dongfeng Race Team were launched to the front of the fleet
Last hour of the Volvo. With west winds over 26 knots. the "Dongfeng" has managed to reach the "Mapfre" that sails north of the French-Chinese that is already second, being the third place for the "AkzoNobel." It should be noted that the three ships in the head are within a two-mile radius. "Vestas" is fourth to 5 nautical miles from "Dongfeng" and "Brunel" the fifth to 7. They close "Turn The Tide on Plastic" to 15 and "Scallywag" to 110.
23 / 03 / 2018: "Mapfre" clings to the leadership of the Volvo in the middle of winds of 26 knots
When it is already 7: 00 in the afternoon of Friday, the Spanish ship "Mapfre" sails at high speed helped by fin winds as it is said in the regatta argot, that is, from the south-west of more than 25 knots, practically to the limit of the exclusion zone... theoretically in the second square very north, even though in handkerchief with the Spaniards, the French-Chinese of the "Dongfeng" (8 miles), the third square is for "AkzoNobel" further north but a bit behind in net distance: 9 miles from the head. Back but very close in any case: "Brunel" and "Vestas" 11 miles from "Mapfre," behind them "Turn The Tide on Plastic" less than 20 miles, and closing the "Scallywag" fleet about 100 miles... Brazil, the line of arrival at about 4,500 nautical miles.
22 / 03 / 2018: "Mapfre" takes over in a Volvo that will be hardened in the next hours
When it is 11: 00 in Spain, "Mapfre" has been made with the leader of the Volvo Ocean Race fleet with a certain sluggish, when a little more than 4800 miles to complete the seventh. "Dongfeng" equated with "Vestas" fight for the second square, while fourth is "Brunel" a little slower and fifth "AkzoNobel" about 17 miles away.
The ships have been bordering the limit of the race field established by the organization to avoid the ice of the south and competing with strong but manageable winds in the range of 20-25 knots that are allowed to make 500 miles a day... but the situation will change... because by sailing south of a high pressure system, the fleet has enjoyed a radiant sun and relatively warm temperatures so far.
However, the prediction is that a cold front will bring the wind back to the west-west, reducing the temperature significantly... the forecast says the wind will increase to 35-40 knots, for several days, and the accompanying sea state will make the maneuvers very complicated.
21 / 03 / 2018: "AkzoNobel" relays "Vestas" in the leadership of the Volvo and "Mapfre" is third to 5,500 miles from Brazil

Four days after the departure of the 7,600-mile phase between Auckland (New Zealand) and Itajai (Brazil), the ships have already started to slow down the downfall to the south to begin to point their proas to the east, towards Cape Horn.
A north-east wind of between 20 and 30 knots has guaranteed fast navigation conditions, with boat speeds similar to those of the existing wind... "Vestas 11th Hour Racing" traveled 500.2 nautical miles in the 24 hours before the part of the 07: 00 UTC positions, with its six rivals in about 15 miles around that target.
In the face of the questions of several fans in this regard, these are the changes of crew in the seventh stage of the Volvo Ocean Race: In the crews there have been ten changes, highlighting among them for their significance on board, the return after their injury, of Antonio "Ñeti" Cuervas- Mons, who has relieved the New Zealand Louis Sinclair in the "Mapfre" and the absence of the Spanish pattern, the Coruñés "Chuny" Bermudez de Castro... after the reincorporation of the American patron Charlie Enright, as the patron of the "Vestas."
So far the race has been to win south as quickly as possible to surround a large anti-cyclone, but today the teams (separated in the water for about 25 miles) began to point their proas to the east given the proximity of the ice exclusion zone. The shortest, and therefore the fastest, route will cause the fleet to sail in parallel along the exclusion zone, established by the organization to keep the ships away from the Antarctic icebergs.
In the middle of the afternoon, Spanish time, there has been a change of leader in favor of the "AkzoNobel" that takes over three miles to the "Vestas," followed by "Mapfre" and "Brunel a little above six miles... ahead of" Dongfeng "seven miles from the leader. They close as usual since the fleet left Auckland four days ago:" Turn The Tide on Plastic "and the" Scallywag "at 17 and 20 nautical miles respectively... the winds are of north component at this time (slightly to the west) and come with a force of 17 knots... the line of arrival is already 5,500 miles.
The next challenge the teams are going to face is a monstrous front that is forming in the south and that brings with it winds of more than 40 knots.
20 / 03 / 2018: Winds of the north of 21 knots in a Volvo in which "Vestas" stands out

A powerful front awaits the Volvo Ocean Race fleet as they continue to win south in search of the ice limit
North winds of more than 20 knots accompany the Volvo Ocean Race fleet in the third day of the seventh rubo stage to Itaji, in Brazil. The fleet is beginning to stretch, increasing its "Vestas" advantage, which has the "AkzoNobel" to a little more than two miles down the stern and "Mapfre" to which it takes about four miles. The rest of the fleet by this order: "Brunel" to 7.5; "Dongfeng" to 7.7; "Turn The Tide on Plastic" to 10.9 and "Scallywag" to about 15 miles.
20 / 03 / 2018: "Vestas" and "Mapfre" are now the head of the Volvo 6,000 miles from Itaji
As stated in the boxing argot, the Volvo fleet after two full days of navigation continues to exchange blows, to see the possibilities of both in the so-called "queen stage," the seventh stage that is being covered between Auckland in New Zealand and Itajai in Brazil. In the early hours of Tuesday the lead is for the American "Vestas" who has his stern to the "Mapfre" less than a mile... is the third leader if you can call it that, after "Mapfre" and "Brunel..." the one who has always been the second in discord, that is with different "mandon" is the boy ship "Dongfeng" that is kept in a second plane but very close to the head, between the "AkzoNobel" and in the truck of tail "Turn The Tiwaon Plastic" and the "almost" Sachyya "more than 23 miles." Now the wind when it's in Spain 10: 00 in the morning Tuesday has risen to 22 knots, with a basically northern component.
19 / 03 / 2018: The Volvo fleet within a radius of 9 miles, with "Mapfre," and "Dongfeng" in the head
In the early hours of the day of San José, the Spanish representative in the Volvo has resumed the leadership, very just that, because the difference between "Mapfre" and the last of the fleet is about nine nautical miles. After "Mapfre" is now "Dongfeng" within half a mile. The winds are from the east of just 14 knots, and for the moment the fleet has a large platoon look.
18 / 03 / 2018: Auckland fired the Volvo in the purest "kiwi" style with tens of thousands of spectators

Auckland hosted a spectacular exit from the seventh stage of the Volvo, which leads the ships to Itajai, in Brazil, through the very hard South Pacific... at the exit command "Mapfre," but soon "Brunel" has taken over... "Vestas" is fourth
Tomorrow sunny with a wind set around 20 knots and tens of thousands of Auckland fans fired the fleet of the Volvo Ocean Race at the exit of the stage of the queen with fluno to Itajai in Brazil, where must be the fleet in early April, specifically between the 4 and 6 days if it is fulfilled the foreseeable... the show of farewell in New Zealand waters was lived with an impressive deployment in the most style "kiwi": tables of kitesurf, windsurfers, surfboards, kayaks, ships of sail, of the world's legendary and the world's legendary, the world's leader, the world's leader, and the world's leader of the world.
The "Mapfre," the leader of the general of the race, was the best at the exit of the port of Waitematā before entering into the Gulf of Hauraki, with Dongfeng, Team Brunel and Turn the Tide on Plastic behind the leader... but soon the "Brunel" took over the fleet, when it sailed with an east wind of just over 20 knots.
On a return to the roots of the race, Stage 7 of the Volvo Ocean Race will take the teams on a 7,600 nautical mile trip to the South Ocean passing through the emblematic Cape Horn, before returning to the Atlantic Ocean towards the goal in Itajai (Brazil). The Ice Exclusion Zone will allow the teams to go down by sailing to 59 degrees of southern latitude, almost to the limit of the 50 Rugientes, where the wind and waves surround the planet without obstacles on the ground, allowing them to reach a fearsome dimensions. It will be very cold in the south, and the route will take the fleet to the most remote place in the world, the Nemo Point, where the closest human beings are the astronauts of the space station.
