The 2018 light sailing calendar at the Abra is set to start this weekend with the Guadalimar Trophy, organized by the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club. Half a hundred boats and 70 regatists of the Optimist classes, 420, Snipe, FEVA, L'Equipe and Laser will sail in the Vizcaina waters of the Abra in a test that will make known to the first winners of the year in this mode. They will compete on the six routes planned, three of them on Saturday 17 and three on Sunday 18 (12 and 11 hours, respectively). This Guadalimar Trophy is the beginning of each season of the citations of this light sailing specialty at the Club de Las Arenas. The regatists of the Maritime come to complete an excellent performance last weekend in the waters of Santander.

In addition to this Guadalimar Trophy, the Royal Maritime Club of Abra-Real Sporting Club this year shows several outstanding tests of light sailing in the Abra as are the XVII José Luis Azqueta Trophy (21 and 22 April) or the XXVIII Arteo Trophy - José Luis de Ugarte School of Selling (22 and 23 September). The Bizkaia Championship, the President Trophy, the Eduardo Erecacho Memorial or the Christmas Trophy will also be held here.

Last year there was no luck in celebrating this Guadalimar Trophy. First, on the opening day, the weather parts were very unfavourable and even at the time indicated for the start of the test there was a time in the Abra. Then, what was going to be the day that would decide the first winners of this year 2018 also had to be overturned on the contrary, because of the lack of wind.

The Guadalimar Trophy is a tribute to two great historical regatists of the Sporting who in 1957 achieved the world title of the Snipe class: Allende and Laiseca. In NAUTICA DIGITAL we join this memory and have reedited the article that our director made about this title two years ago.
