After a month and a half since the departure of the Arsenal of Cartagena, the "Hesperides" Oceanographic Research Ship (BIO) has completed the first phase of the Antarctic Campaign. After crossing the Atlantic Ocean, making scales in Mar del Plata and Ushuaia, and crossing the Sea of Hozes, the ship has completed its first objective of the Campaign, which has consisted in the opening of the Spanish Antarctic bases (BAE's) "Juan Carlos I" and "Gabriel de Castilla."
A total of 60 tons of various materials including food, vehicles, fuel and scientific material have been moved for the opening of the bases. A total of 50 people have also been landed at the bases among the military personnel of the Earth Army, scientists and technicians.
This phase of the campaign has had an exclusive logistical component for the "Hesperides." While most of the material load was carried out in the Arsenal of Cartagena before the start of the campaign, scientific and technical personnel embarked on the previous scale in Ushuaia.
