Spain has been the great protagonist of the 420 World Championship at the Fremantle Sailing Club, Australia, copying the podium in absolute category and winning in Sub 17. The Oros have been for Henry and Pablo Luján in 420 Open and for Martin Wizner and Pedro Ameneiro in Sub 17. For their part, the Torres / Mulet and Balaguer / Massanet teams have been raised with silver and bronze respectively in open category.
The last day of the World Cup Olympic Development Class 420 has been a heart attack for the Spanish crews in the Open category. The day began with Carlos Balaguer and Antoni Massanet, firmly leading the classification followed by Albert Torres and Xesc Mulet and with the brothers Enrique and Pablo Luján in a third very disputed position.
The first race has been difficult for the crews who left as favorites with a 10 for Torres / Mulet and a 13 for Balaguer / Massanet while the Luján have added a third to their locker. With the Spanish podium, the last sleeve seemed to be intended to confirm the positions although they finally turned unexpected.
An off-line on the last exit of the championship has deprived Balaguer and Massanet of being world champions and has made them go down to third position. Instead, the brothers Henry and Paul Luján have completed an epic day from fighting to keep the bronze to get the gold. Meanwhile, Albert Torres and Xesc Mulet have consolidated the silver. With Spanish podium in the 420 Open class, the guinda has been put by Eduardo Ferrer / Carlos de Maqua and Elías Aretz / Pablo Garcia, novios y tendimos, completing the top 10 world.
In category Sub 17, Martin Wizner and Pedro Ameneiro have obtained gold after a championship in which they have shown great physical and mental strength. Taken by an off-line and a penalty in the third and fourth manga of the world, Wizner and Ameneiro have been forced to fight against each other during the six days of competition in which they have added four first, three seconds and a third in twelve tests. In the female category, Maria and Pilar Caba say goodbye to Australia in the seventh world position. The Canary sisters yesterday were third and an off-line in the first of the two trials held today has deprived them of finishing the 420 World Championship on the podium as they had done throughout the race.
