21 / 12 / 2017: With the Medal Race concludes Friday in Palamós la Christmas Race
The fourth day of the 42 Palamos- Christmas Race served to determine which ten crews of the Olympic classes will fight tomorrow Friday the Medal Race and in the non-Olympic ones to define the first positions for the final day. The Medal Race is a single test that plays the first ten and has double value and is not disposable. They choose the victory Alex Muscat and Joan Cardona in Finn, Jordi Xammar / Nico Rodríguez in 470 Male and Bàrbara Cornudella / Sara López in 470 Female. Among the non-Olympic leaders Pere Ponsetí in Laser Radio Male and Marc Arrufat in Europe.
In the Finn class two Spaniards choose to win. The Catalan Alex Muscat (CN Garraf) comes as a leader to the final after a 4-3-1 although tied to points with the Estonian Deniss Karpak. Great day of the shooting Joan Cardona (RCN Palma) which after a 3-1-2 has climbed to the third position to three points of the first two. The Croatian Milan Vujasinović has also pointed to the struggle for the podium and is fourth to two points of the medals.
In 470 Male Simon Diesch and Philipp Autenrieth are kept in the lead after two first and one second, followed closely by Jordi Xammar and Nico Rodríguez (CN Cambrils / RCN Vigo) who today made two seconds and one first. Three points separate the two crews, so Xammar and Rodríguez depend on themselves to revalidate the title of champions of the Palamos- Christmas race. Third are South Africans Asenathi Jim and Alexander Ham. The balearo-Andalusian crew of Enric Noguera and Fernando Dávila (CV Puerto d'Andratx / CN El Candado) will also be on the Medal Race, are novies but without options to be on the podium.
In 470, the French Jennifer Poret and Camille Hautefaye have it very well to take the victory, two first and one second keep them leaders with comfort and with a 12-point rent on the Catalan Bàrbara Cornudella and Sara López (CN El Balís) who have placed themselves second after Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero (CN S'Arenal / RCN Gran Canaria) made an eighth and did not leave in the next two sleeves due to a malfunction, and although they will be in the Medal Mas will not be able to repeat podium in Palamós, which she achieved last year.
In Laser Radio Feminino there will be no Spanish representation in the Medal Race after Laura Oliva (CN Vilassar de Mar) has closed the first tenth qualifying phase. Reach leader to the final British Alison Young.
In Laser Radial Male, the Pere Ponsetí (CN Ciutadella) is still a firm leader in the absence of the last day's dispute, a 1-2 and with a 14-point general difference over the British Arthur Fry, second. Third is Victor Moure (CN El Masnou).
In 49er the Italians Simone Ferrarese and Valerio Galati reach 21 points with the Norwegian Tomas and Mads Mathemisen. In this class the struggle for final victory is very open, since from first to seventh there are only nine points of difference. The Galician Luis Bugallo and Koki Lorenzo (RCN Vigo) are the only Spanish crew to have been classified in this class to fight the Medal Race.
In FX the Italian crews of Carlotta Omari / Matlda Distefano will play the title at the Medal Race, with the permission of the Finns Martin Mikkola / Markus Ihamuotila, who are third parties. Two Spanish crews, Juan Bedia / Víctor Pérez (RCM Santander is sixth and Carla Munté / Nicole Van der Velden (CN Cambrils), ninth.
In 420 lead Wichy Hernández / Nacho Balaguer (RCN Gran Canaria / RCN Valencia), followed by Nacho Dávila / Javier Mestre (CN El Balís).
In Europe Marc ArruFat (CN El Balís) is a leader of the last day with Oriol Pila (CN L'Estartit) on his heels. The gerundense has been placed at a single point in the seamense. The Alicantino Alejandro Pareja has also climbed positions, which after a 1-2 is third in the general.
The wind on the penultimate day of the 42 Palamos- Christmas Race blew from the north-north between 18 and 24 knots of intensity.
The Finn, Laser Standard, Laser Female Radio, 470 Male, 470 Female and 49er classes will be held in a special session. The rest of the Laser Radio Male classes, Europe, 420 and 29er will fight fleet tests.
