Sun Hung Kai / Scallywag has announced three new crew for the 2017-18 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race, including Olympic medalist Annemieke Bes

Pattern David Witt, who leads Hong Kong's first team on the Volvo Ocean Race, announced three new additions to his crew: Tom Clout (Australia), Antonio Fontes (Portugal) and Annemieke Bes (Netherlands). Witt, who initially stated that he intended to sail with a crew of seven men, surprised to include Bes as part of his final crew. The new rules of the race, designed to encourage teams to carry more female crew on board, limit the number of male crew to seven. In contrast, a mixed team may include up to two additional women, up to a total of eight or nine. To date, the Sun Hung Kai - Scallywag team was the only one of the seven participants who had not included any women in their crew. The arrival of Bes means that all the teams in the fleet are going to have female regatists on board.
