After having a variety of discussions with key stakeholders, it has been determined that additional planning time is needed to implement the recent changes announced in the race calendar. As a result, the 2019-2020 edition, for which it was proposed that it be made with new ships, will not be carried out as planned. A revised timetable for future Volvo Ocean Races will be announced as soon as possible. Volvo remains committed to ensuring that any planned change provides long-term sustainable benefits to both the race itself and the participating teams. The design process of the new and exciting Super 60 concept, which is at the forefront of ocean monocasque technology, continues. The current 2017-18 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race will not be affected by this change, and will take place as planned. As a result of this review of the competition calendar, the current regatta CEO, Mark Turner, has decided to give up his current position. Turner will continue to play the role of CEO until his successor is appointed, whose search has already begun.

The Volvo Ocean Race 2017- 18 will start in Alicante on 22 October 2017 and will end in The Hague in June 2018, making a call in 12 cities (Alicante, Lisbon, Cape Town, Melbourne, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Auckland, Itajai, Newport, Cardiff, Gothenburg and The Hague) on an epic adventure around the world that will travel 45,000 nautical miles. In the competition they will sail 7 highly qualified professional teams, including some of the most experienced regatists in the world. The registered teams are Team AkzoNobel, Dongfeng Race Team, MAPHRE, Vestas 11th Hour Racing, Sun Hung Kai / Scallywag, Turn The Tide on Plastic and Team Brunel.
