Mapfre, Team AkzoNobel, Dongfeng Race Team, Vestas 11th Hour Racing, Team Sun Hung Kai / Scallywag, Turn the Tide on Plastic and Team Brunel are quoted in October in Alicante to take off the Volvo Ocean Race
Recognized as one of the most extreme and hard tests of the world sport the Volvo Ocean Race 2017 / 18 returns to the scene and Alicante Puerto de Departure de la Vuelta al Vela a Vela - under the organization of the Sociedad Proyectos Temáticas de la Comunidad Valenciana - will be the protagonist of exception when hosting the star quote as Port of Departure. It will all start in Alicante on October 22 with 45,000 miles of bow tour of the seven international teams that take part. Seven will be the teams of different nationalities that take part in the ocean test that part of Alicante and will end in The Hague (Team AkzoNobel, Dongfeng Race Team, MAPHRE, Vestas 11th Hour Racing, Team Sun Hung Kai / Scallywag, Turn the Tide on Plastic and Team Brunel).
The national colors will be represented by the Mapfre team that captains the Basque Xabi Fernández and that has on board the Catalan sportsman established in the Valencia Community, and one of the only two Spanish who has won the Volvo Ocean Race, Juan Vila. The Dutch team AkzoNobel will be led by Simeon Testipont, who will premiere in this round of the world as a patron, while the Chinese Dongfeng Race Team returns to Alicante in its second participation in the race patrolling by French patron Charles Caudrelier. Representing the United States and Denmark restage the team Vestas 11th Hour for second consecutive edition, led by the athletes Charlie Enright and Mark Towill and from which is the head of the ground team the Galician Diego Torrado. The fifth participant is a Hong Kong flag and is no other than Team Sun Hung Kai / Scallywag, patrolled by Australian David Witt. The British Patron Dee Caffari is another one in Alicante, but on this occasion she will lead a team of young promises representing the United Nations, Turn the Tide on Plastic, under a commitment to sustainability. The Caffari team is the largest female presence on board with five women. Close the list of registered Dutch team of veteran Bouwe Bekking, Team Brunel.
Starting in Alicante, the meeting point of the entire fleet around the world before facing the great challenge, the fleet will leave the Mediterranean waters of the Valencian community to face in 11 stages that will be highlighted in Lisbon, Cape Town, Melbourne, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Auckland, Itajai, Newport, Cardiff, Gothenburg and will end in The Hague. 15 / 09 / 2017: Alicante presents the planning of "parallel acts" at the exit of the Volvo Ocean Race
Antonio Rodes, Director General of the Society of Thematic Projects of the Valencia Community, has presented in the Museum of the Volvo Ocean Race, together with the Conseller of Finance of the Valencia Community Vicent Soler i Marco and the Council of Tourism and Sport Eva Montesinos, the detailed program of activities of Alicante, Port of Departure from the Vuelta al Mundo a Vela. The Race Village, which will open on 11 October from 6 p.m. and will be opened at 8 p.m., will be active for 12 consecutive days from 10 a.m. to 22 a.m. and with extended hours on weekends.
The sustainability and care of the oceans has been revealed as one of the main bets in this Race Village that marks the beginning of the Volvo Ocean Race, mainly in an ambitious campaign for ocean care: the Clean Seas campaign, which seeks to raise awareness of the importance of the disposal of plastic waste at sea. The races prior to the departure of the Volvo Ocean Race are perfect context in the design of the sports part of the Race Village of Alicante. Visitors will be able to start in the sailing sport with a wide programme of Sea Baptism, will have several days of navigation for the Optimist class, an exhibition of ships of Latin Sailing and other actions framed within the Alicante School Program, Port of Departure from the World Sailing Tour.
Undoubtedly one of the great attractions in the Race Village will be the Wind Tunnel, a unique experience of pure adrenaline. The children's public is one of the objectives of this edition. A set of children's workshops will be held daily. In addition, a play area will be enabled to ensure fun while enjoying theatre sessions and other performances.

Alicante, with a great bet of the Generalitat Valenciana, is again the world epicenter of the candle with the celebration of the departure of the Volvo Ocean Race for the fourth time in a row and where it has its home since 2010. On October 11, Alicante will dress its best galas as the Port of Departure from the Vuelta al Vela to the World by opening its Race Village. 12 days of leisure, educational and sports activities that will culminate on October 22 with the departure of stage 1 - Alicante to Lisbon - of the Volvo Ocean Race.
In addition to the key dates of the opening of the Race Village of Alicante (October 11) or the departure of the Volvo Ocean Race (October 22), the coastal race (October 14) will give the teams the opportunity to score the first points of this edition on the VO65 markers that take part in the competition.

The Race Village of 55,000 square meters is the result of the collaboration between the SPTCV and the Harbour Authority, more extensive than on previous occasions, has been conceived in this edition under clear values based on sustainability, solidarity, the promotion of the Valencian community and especially of its economy, and with the aim of making it much more participatory for visitors.
The programming of the Alicantino Race Village that will host the international sports event promises a lot of action and entertainment. The opening, scheduled for October 11 at 8: 00 p.m. & # 8211although the gates of the Race Village will open at 6: 00 p.m., will be prelude to almost two exciting weeks of daily activities.
The visitor can enjoy in this environment of the Port of Alicante - with free entrance - children's workshops, theatre, activities based on sustainability, concerts or local bands, as well as others more focused on the nautical: sea baptismos, a wide school program and the possibility of getting to know these machines in greater depth devours miles and everything around the test.
