The first edition of the Discoveries Race race ended today, September 4, with the award ceremony held at the Royal Nautical Club in Gran Canaria. The event was attended by the Minister of Finance and Presidency of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Pedro Justo Brito; the Councillor of Tourism of the City of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Pedro Quevedo; the admiral chief of the naval command of the Canarias, Juan Luis Sobrino; the comandoro of the Royal Nautico Club of Gran Canaria, Manuel Iess; the head of the Arsenal, José Mª Ripoll; the captain of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard, Francisco José García Muñoz, as well as the President of the European Cifradía de la Vela, Francisco Quirógada, and the representative of the Canary Islands.
Protein 65, of the Nautical Club of Sada, of the shipowner Manuel Batallán, collected the trophy of champion in the class ORC. The Galician ship, which had the Unai Basurko in the team, exceeded in 1 hour, 29 minutes and 7 seconds the Nautilus of the Spanish Navy, second classified of the general but first in real time, which made it worthy of the Trophy Fernando de Magallanes. The Sao Gabriel finished third of the general, only 1 hour, 35 minutes and 51 seconds in compensated time of the second classified.
In the Open class, the Künga, by Marina Punta Lagoa, by the shipowner Jorge E. Mallo, collected the winning trophy. The Viguese ship was imposed on the Barc-school of the Portuguese Navy, Polar, which was the last ship to arrive in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, on Saturday night. The third ship in liza, the Zarco, of the Portuguese Navy arrived in the capital of Gran Canaria, but it did so retired.

The first edition of the Regata Discoveries Race, regatta in honor of the Spanish and Portuguese discoverers, left Lisboa-Cascais on Sunday August 27, ending in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This initiative of the European Sailing Brotherhood, sponsored by Canela Marina Island, Golf & Beach Resorts, the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Cabildo de Gran Canaria, was organized by the Lisbon Naval Association, the Cascais Naval Clube and the Royal Nautical Club of Gran Canaria.
