The Adrián Hotels Macaronesia of the shipowner and patron Daniel Adrián, suffered an accident in the middle of the night when he was sailing at 17 knots of speed and with winds of 42 knots of stern. The canary team was just 20 miles from the line of arrival of the Huelva Regata - La Gomera and with the possibility of winning the commemorative race of the 525 anniversary of the Columbus route, when suddenly the ship turned to touch the tip of the stick the water, falling two crew members into the water and the patron Daniel Adrián suffering various contusions.
It was closed night when the Adrián Hotels sailed with all its velamen deployed. Suddenly he burst the spi, which caused the ship to get out of control in such a way that it would turn into chaos. With two crew in the water and the pattern with various blows, but it was saved from falling into the water grace to the holding harness. The crew quickly began to try to straighten the ship, cut off the drip of what was left of spi and told that the eight crew members were under control. The two who had fallen into the water, with the ship still overturned, were able to rejoin, so no more serious personal damage than the blows suffered had to be regretted.
After the incident, the team did not surrender in search of the victory that it had in compensated time at the time of the accident. The Adrián Hoteles Macaronesia would finally end second in the general classification behind the Marina Rúkón-Doñana de Ricardo Terrades, which had arrived in real time to San Sebastián de la Gomera hours before the canary ship. In the end, the Adrián Hoteles would finish subchampion 1 hour, 14 minutes and 58 seconds from the winner. Third was the Galbula of Pedro González.
Daniel Adrián once on the ground explained what he lived during the Huelva-La Gomera: "It has been one of the races that leave a mark and make equipment. We bet to the end on a victory that escaped us and our ambition led us to risk and end up turning. Despite this we fight to the end and reach a second place that makes us dream of next ocean challenges."
The next races in which the Adrián Hotels Macaronesia will participate are the Princess of Asturias Trophy in the Gran Canaria RCN and the Infantas Trophy in Spain in the Tenerife RCN.
