Brilliant ceremony of the National Terra Guda Sailing Awards in Baiona
The Mount Real Club of Yates hosted this evening, as part of the celebration of its 32nd Prince of Asturias Trophy, the gala of delivery of the National Vela Terras Gauda Awards, which received the Maserati ship, the ABC supplement of the Nautics, Fernándo Echávarri and Tara Pacheco, the Spanish Impulse, Xabi Fernández and the Marin Military Naval School.
Fernando León, patron of the Maserati, was in charge of collecting, from the hands of the deputy of sports of the Diputación de Pontevedra, Consuelo Besada, the prize awarded to the ship of Puerto Portals, armed by Alvaro Irila, as the best ship ORC.
The Mariano Aguado de Comunicación Award was taken this year by the monthly ABC supplement of the Nautica, for the dissemination it has been making, for more than a decade, of the main news related to the sailing that is produced in Spain. The award was collected by his director, Pedro Sardina.
The Galician Fernándo Echávarri and the canary Tara Pacheco, the National Sailing Award for the Best Olympic Team, could not be present tonight in Baiona for their sporting commitments, and the mayor of Baiona, Ángel Rodal, gave his award to Francisco José Estévez "Paco Pepe," the first coach of the Galician sportsman.
The Spanish Impulse by Iberostar was recognized as the best race team of the year for its performance representing Spain at the Youth America's Cup, the youth version of the America Cup of Sailing. Of the "rooster" team, the Olympic Jordi Xammar and the Galician Luis Bugallo were present at the gala, who went up to collect the award accompanied by their sports team. The xeral secretary for or sport of the Xunta de Galicia, Marta Migez, was in charge of giving it to him.
The next prize of the night was picked up by the Mapfre pattern at the Volvo Ocean Race, the Gipuzcoan Xabi Fernández, National Vela Terras Guda Award for the best regatist of the year. And as a colophone the National Vela Terras Gauda Award to the institution of the year was in this edition at the Military Naval School of Marin, for the work he has done for three centuries in the scientific, humanistic, military and marine training of the officials of the Spanish Navy. The jury who awards the awards also wanted to recognize with this award that the School has become, throughout its history, one of the main generators of scientific knowledge in Spain, in matters as related to the nautical world as cartography, meteorology, geodesy, engineering, hydrography, oceanography or astronomy, among others. The principal commander of the Military Naval School of Marín, José María Núñez Torrente received the award from the president of Bodegas Terras Guda, José María Fonseca Moretón, in the year in which the 300 anniversary of his birth is celebrated.
