The English The Shark and Eleanda, last incorporated into the Discovery Race- The Alisians
The Navy of Cascais is preparing to house the ships that will participate in the first edition of the Discovities Race- Los Alisios, race that will honor the navigators Cristóbal Colón and Fernao de Magalhaes, great references of Spain and Portugal in the 15th and 16th centuries.
Two ships that have been assiduous of ocean races such as the Rolex Fasnet Race, and that its last edition was held in the first week of August in water, will participate in the first edition of the Discoveries Race- Los Alisios, promoted by the European Sailing Brotherhood, organized by the Royal Nautical Club of Gran Canaria, the Asociaçao Naval of Lisbon and the Navale Club of Cascais, with the sponsorship of Isla Canela Marina, Golf & Resorts and with the collaboration of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, the City Hall of Las Palmas and Cascais.
These are the British ships El Tiburón (Swan 44) and Eleanda (HR 62) that have joined the Discoveries Race- The Alisios that will leave next Sunday 27 from Lisbon to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The Shark, by the shipowner Andrew Amstrong, is a Cowes-based ship, designed in 1972 by Sparkman and Stephens this year has participated in the Round the Island Race (Return to the Island of Wight) in early July in which more than 1,200 ships participated.
The Eleanda, of the shipowner Nigel Lindsay-Finn, is a 62-foot Hallberg-Rassy designed by German Frers and has specialized in participating in ocean races. The Eleanda has already participated in the ARC, the Atlantic Rally that leaves every fall from Gran Canaria to Saint Lucia, so the Discovities Race- Los Alisios, will serve the English ship as a regatta arrival to the Canary Islands.
