The Volvo Ocean Race already has in its bosom the two great figures of the last edition of the American Cup: New Zealanders Peter Burling and Blair Tuke, who before leading their country to victory in the competition, came from winning the 2016 Olympic Games as a couple in the 49er class. Team Brunel today announced Burling's registration, which will debut in the third stage zero test that will lead to the fleet from Plymouth to Saint Malo. Burling follows the steps of Tuke, who after signing for the MAPHRE in mid-July, has been sailing at the orders of the Xabi Fernández.

"It's gonna be amazing to compete against Tukey! We have a huge respect for each other's ability and talent, and we are our biggest fans. We both have the possibility of acquiring an enormous experience for our future objectives. I'm sure we'll share a few stories and a few beers at all stops.", he said. Bouwe Bekking, team Brunel's patron, was delighted after Peter Burling decided to sign for them. "I think other teams also contacted him, but we have been very calm about it. He seems to be also a very quiet guy, so it's fantastic news that he chose us."He said.

The Volvo Ocean Race leaves Alicante on October 22 and will travel 45,000 nautical miles (83,000 km) around the world, visiting a total of 12 host cities. Brunel and MAPHRE are two of the seven teams confirmed to date.
