Recreational boat enrollments grow almost 11 points from January to July

As of July 2017, 3,991 recreational boats have been registered in Spain, compared with 3,601 in the same period in 2016, a growth of 10.83%. The boats registered for rental use continue to grow, by 26.58% in the year, which shows the high demand for the rental of recreational boats that is consolidated as a nautical trend. These are the data collected in the Recreation Boat Market Report (January - July 2017), edited by ANEN on the basis of information provided by the General Directorate of the Merchant Navy. They grow all the length. The ships up to 8 meters grow by 8.1%, enrolling 3,529 ships compared to the 3,264 registered in the same period of 2016. It remains the most demanded segment of ships in Spain (88.4% of the nautical market).

The length between 8 and 12 meters is 31.5%, with 284 enrolments compared to 216 last year. The ships between 12 and 16 meters grow by 36.6%, with 127 enrollments over the 93 in the same period of 2016. The ships over 16 meters experience the highest growth (82%) with 51 units registered on the 28 registered between January and July 2016. By type of boat, water motorcycles register 13.8% more than in the same period last year (with 979 registrations compared to 860 registered between January and July 2016). The motor ships grow by 13%, with 1,791 enrollments (1,585 registered in the same period of 2016). The folding pneumatic vessels fall slightly -3.4% and the semi-rigid vessels grow by 10.7%. The candle improves its performance in this period and grows by 6.5%, enrolling 230 units compared to 216 units registered between January and July 2016.

The rental market has a 26.58% growth in the enrolment of recreational boats. From January to July 2017, 1,324 recreational boats were registered for rent, compared with 1,046 in the same period last year. The length up to 8 meters is also the most demanding in the rental market (85.6%) and they experience a growth of 23.6%. The increase in the rental of ships of more than 12 meters in length, which grow by 100% on average, with 85 units registered, is noteworthy, compared to 44 registered between January and July last year. By type of boat, the most growing enrolments in the rental market in this first semester are those of motor boats (43.2%). Catalonia, Balearic Islands and Andalusia in the first positions on the nautical market Catalonia with 23.12% share, occupies the first position on the national nautical market and has a growth of 16.25%, from January to July 2017. The Balearic Islands, second on the market with a share of 17.44%, has a growth of 13.17%. Andalusia remains in third position per market share (16.23%) but has a decrease of -9,6% of its enrolments in the period under review. The rental market is led by the Balearic Islands with a share of 25.15%, followed by Catalonia which represents 24.55%, and the Valencia Community which accounts for 17.14% of the charter market between January and July of this year.
