Oliver Design has been chosen for the development of a different cruise ship project... the "Ecoship" has been promoted by a Japanese NGO, and proposes to create a green transatlantic, which will use green energy and be ready by 2020
The design of the "Ecoship," called to become the world's most sustainable cruise ship, promoted by the Japanese NGO "Peace Boat." It is about building a 55,000-ton cruise, capable of accommodating a thousand passengers, which will be operational by 2020. Its external design, inspired by the silhouette of a whale, includes as more representative elements ten retractable candles on its top deck, formed by solar panels that will provide clean energy to the ship.
Hybrid engines, wind turbines, mechanisms for optimal energy efficiency and a biophilia-based architecture - which optimizes the use of water, air and natural light - will result in a ship that aims to become a reference for shipbuilding in the future. Oliver Design's technicians will work in close contact with a select international team composed of 30 engineers, scientists and theorists of eco-technology and shipbuilding, to give final shape to the one that is called to become the flagship of sustainability for the cruise sector in particular, but also for navigation in general.
Thus, the project of this revolutionary cruise incorporates at the top of its cover ten large retractable elements composed of solar panels, which can operate as large candles depending on the wind conditions. For the initial design of this distinctive element in the "Ecoship" there has been the collaboration of the German naval engineer Detlev Loell, an expert of recognized international prestige on classic vessels that has brought his knowledge of the sailing propulsion. In this way, the ship can use these devices to drive and generate energy through sunlight simultaneously. In total, the "Ecoship" is designed to incorporate panels with a combined surface of 6,000 m2 and a power of 750 kilowatt (kW).
In addition to the use of renewable energy, the cruise will have a hybrid engine, alternatively powered by diesel and liquefied natural gas, capable of saving up to 20% in fuel consumption and reducing CO2 emissions by up to 40% in respect of a ship of similar characteristics. The "Ecoship" also incorporates the latest developments in waste management, as well as architectural design proposals based on Biofilia. This constructive concept advocates the maximum use of natural elements such as air, light and water, as well as the use of materials and designs based on nature itself.
The name Peace Boat corresponds to the format adopted from the first moment by this Japanese NGO to develop its activities: educational travel on large passenger ships, which offer opportunities for coexistence on board and contact with public from different countries. The aim is to develop cooperation programmes while promoting responsible tourism. The organization aims to make the "Ecoship" a turning point for the shipping industry and a flagship for climate change awareness. In addition to being the instrument for the cruises around the world of Peace Boat, the ship will host green technology exhibitions in the 100 ports where it is expected to scale each year, and will also serve as a floating laboratory that will contribute to research on the ocean, climate and ecological technologies.
