Joel Rodríguez continues to be successful in the Laser Standard class. This time the Canarian regatist has been imposed on a very tight classification to get the gold in the European Championship sub21 held in Douarnenez, France.
Rodriguez's numbers throughout the competition, which has consisted of ten tests, have been magnificent with the exception of the black flag with which he was penalized in the second manga of the first day. This result, added to a fifth place in the eighth race of the championship, has been the only times that Rodríguez has not crossed the line of arrival in a podium position.
The last test of the championship has been a true final sprint to which Rodríguez arrived in first position but with a triple tie to points next to Hungarian Jonathan Vadnai and British Daniel Whiteley. In the end the classification was the same as crossing the Spanish in first position followed by Vadnai and Whiteley. Along with Rodriguez, the Spanish Ramiro Foguet (12) and Mario Plomer (26) have sailed in the gold group of the class.
In the Laser Radio sub21 category, the best Spanish representative was Laura Oliva, with a fifth position. Oliva, who started the competition at the top, saw the last day how their podium options were complicated by a disqualification in the first test of the day. In the female category, Sheila Martínez (9), Ángel Andugar (14) and María José Marichal (16) also competed.
