In less than a week, the beach of Arriatera (Bizkaia) will find the neoprene suit to receive the best promises of international surfing and give the gunshot out to a new edition of the Junior Pro Sopola. The test, which will start next Wednesday and will extend until Sunday (19-23 July), will serve one more year to close the European round of the Junior Tour circuit that the World Surf League extends along the five continents and that will make known the name of the best European Riders of the season below the age of 18.

With the recent mathematical coronation of the Portuguese Teresa Bonvalot in the last contest in Espinho (Portugal), the emotion will focus on the male category with the French Marco Mignot (2,275 points) and the Tahitian Kauli Vaast (1,950 points) in the head of the ranking after maintaining a hard struggle during the last events. It is also not appropriate to lose sight of the zarauztars Rubén Vitoria and Iker Amatriain, in fourth and sixth position of the general, respectively, both very fit and with a great desire to shine before the Basque public. From among all of them will be the champion of Europe Junior 2017.

This tenth edition of the event is presented under a category of JQS1,000 and with a $10,000 money prize to be distributed between male and female. The test hopes to beat the registration record of its last edition, which reached the 171 surfers participating and demonstrated a technical level worthy of a higher-ranking test.

After the success of the Pro Zarautz (media impact valued at 1 '3 million euros and 30,000 people public), test of the Qualifying Series classification world circuit, the Junior Pro Sopola consolidates to Euskadi as a reference in the organizational panorama of international surfing. The Junior Pro Sopola is supported by the City Council of Sopola, the Foral Council of Bizkaia, Havaianas, YOW, Coca-Cola, Peñatxuri Surf Eskola, Bar El Peñón, Euskal Herriko Surf Federazioa, Magic Seaweed and Euskaltel.

The World Surf League (WSL), formerly known as the Association of Professional Surfers (ASP), focuses its efforts on showing the best surfing in the world in the best waves on the planet. Based in Santa Monica (United States), it currently has regional headquarters in Australia, Africa, North America, South America, Hawaii, Japan and Europe. The WSL has crowned champions of the surf world since 1976, through the Men's and Women's Championship Tour, the Big Wave Tour, the Qualifying Series, Junior and Longboard Tour, in addition to the WSL Big Wave Awards, awarded to the hunters of the planet's largest waves.
