The Spanish boat, in a very tactical race and in which it maintained close control over its adversaries, won the first gold medal in the competition and the second after the bronze medal in K-2 1,000 meters. The K-4 1,000 was the best (2,54,374) and followed by Poland (2,54,658) and Slovakia (2,54,666). The European Championship ends this Sunday and the Spaniards will still play several finals throughout the day.

Francisco Cubelos and Íñigo Peña achieved the bronze medal in K-2 1,000 meters in the European Championship that is being held in Plovdiv (Bulgaria). Marcus Cooper reached the final in K-1,000 meters after passing the semifinal. The Olympic champion managed to overcome the first obstacles to fighting for the continental title. The Spanish Piragüismo team is already in Plovdiv (Bulgaria), stage from this Friday of the European Championship. Twenty-five athletes, including five from Paracanoe, are part of the Spanish delegation. Some of them will dispute several tests. The competition will end next Sunday. One of the most important dates of the season is more than 500 athletes representing 36 countries. The first contact with the Plovdiv track has been a training. The Spanish team, which includes 12 men and 8 women, has set ambitious targets for the European Championship. The fifteen kayakists and five canoists have the mentality to improve the results of previous editions.
The races in the distances of 1,000 and 500 meters will be the first to be fought. By Saturday the finals will remain and on Sunday the 200-meter tests will be held. The Spanish set is made up of twenty components to which five athletes are added in the paracanoe mode. They all held a training session on the track this Thursday. The intense heat was one of the great protagonists of the day.
Laura Pedruelo, in K-1,000 meters, will be the first Spanish presence in the competition. It will do so at 9: 00 in the morning, 8: 00 in Spain, with the aim of qualifying for the final. It must be among the first three. It is the beginning of a day that is intense in terms of Spanish participation.
Marcos Cooper, current Olympic champion, faces the European Championship at K-1 1,000 meters and K-4 1,000 meters. The latter will also include Francisco Cubelos, Íñigo Peña and Javier Cabañín. Francisco Cubelos and Iñigo Peña will compete in K-2 1,000 meters. The K-4 500 will include Carlos Garrote, Carlos Arévalo, Roi Rodríguez and Óscar Carrera. In the canoists, Sergio Vallejo and Adrián Sieiro will face the specialty of C-2 1,000 meters. Sieiro will also be at C-1 200 meters on Saturday.
In the female category, in addition to Laura Predua, the Friday day will also welcome the participation of several members of the Spanish team.
