Se limpiaron 600 metros de costas en cala Higuera

600 metres of coast in Higuera cove were cleaned

The Ecomar and Coca-Cola Foundation have performed the second "Cleaning of Costas" of 2017 with the Sailing Sur School and children of the village of San José, in the unparalleled framework of Cape de Gata (Almería). Some 15 children of all ages cleared 600 metres of coast in Higuera cove throughout the morning, of which 172.6 kilos of waste were extracted. A new cleaning of solidarity, with the intention of educating by transferring the culture of recycling and respect for the environment, to children aged 7 to 14. It is a question of making them understand that everything that they do not recycle or deposit in the containers will end up at sea with the consequent damage to our planet.

The cleanup was attended by Theresa Zabell, who in the prolegomens had an impact on young people that "we only have one body and one planet, so we can't change it as we do with clothes, ships, bicycles, so we have to watch them so that we don't run out of it." The Olympic bicampeone insisted that, "we are pioneers in coast cleaning with children, we have been many years and we are proud that others have decided to do the same thing as we are. Thus we are more those who will fight for the health state of our seas and will get to clean more kilometers of coast, collect more kilos of waste and raise awareness of more children." They accompanied Theresa Zabell and the volunteers Ecomar Manuel González Peñas, from the Food Bank of Almería and Manuel garcía, from Coca-Cola. Since 2011, Ecomar and Coca-Cola have cleaned more than 35 km of coast, through 22 cleanings that have only been the collection of more than two tons of waste and more than 62,000 cans of product donated to the Food Bank since 2014. Remember that Coca-Cola, at the end of the season, translates the kilos of waste that are collected into product cans to donate to the Food Bank.

Before this, the Ecomar and Coca-Cola Foundation have already carried out a coast cleaning this season of a total of six, specifically in the surroundings of the beach of Luaña, in Cóbreres, Cantabria, where 223 kilos of waste were collected after cleaning almost two kilometres of coast. The next destination will be next Thursday, July 6, in Valencia with students from the sailing school of the Royal Nautical Club of Valencia. On July 12, the area of the Puente del Duque, in Hoyos del Espino, will be cleaned in the mountains of Gredos; and at the end of July in Vilagarcía de Arosa (Pontevedra), with the students of the Galician de Vela Centre. The initiative has crossed borders and for two years the Ecomar and Coca- Cola Foundation also work with schoolchildren from Portugal, where the "Cleanup of Costas" programme has been very welcome. Thus, in 2017 one of the planned cleaning will be done in Setúbal, with the students of the Clube do Sado and the hand of the Portuguese Olympic regatist, Nuno Barreto.
