The final day of the Spanish Championship of Surfing 2017, held on the beach of Doniños in Ferrol, crowned the new Spanish champions. A summer day in which the conditions of the sea led to the completion of the seven days of intense competition in the so-called "Costa das Ondas." A total of 332 surfers and six autonomous communities have enjoyed 101 sleeves and a total of 34.75 hours of competition.

The Open category, which had the semifinals pending for this day, showed the great state of form of the national surfing. In the first of the semi-finals, the canary Luis Díaz (16,65ptos) and the Basque Rubén Vitoria (16,60ptos) sold very expensive access to the final to their competitors, the Andalusian Juanjo Fernández (12,00ptos) and the Tinerfeño Diego Suárez (10,90ptos) failed to reach the two young talents of Spanish surfing. In the second semi-final, the Cantabros, Marcelino Botín (13,50ptos) and Gonzalo Gutiérrez (13,40ptos) managed to apace the Galician Juan Fernández (9,55ptos) and the Andalusian Miguel Castillón (8,50ptos) who had held a great championship so far.

A lot of tension until the last seconds of the female final, the Basque Garazi Sánchez (11,00ptos), with a large surfing throughout the day, managed to beat the Galician Isa Gundín (9,65ptos) and the canaries Melania Suarez (9,55ptos) and Lucía Machado (9,00ptos) who did not give up at any time and showed the quality of the female surf base in Spain, only 13 years old.

Excellent final in which the Andalusian also Juan Villasante (14,35ptos) made his milestone dangerous, the Galician Iago Formosel with 14,00ptos and Jesus Busto completed the podium in third and fourth position respectively.

In kneeboard, it was the song Rubén Gutiérrez (12,10ptos) who took the title for the fourth consecutive time. Rubén ended up in front of the canary David Hernández (10,60ptos) and also the cantabros Alfonso Rodríguez and Alberto González.

As a colophone to this marathon day of competition was held the second edition of the Spanish Championship of Adapted Surf. The Saturday day was decisive, it would be the day when the first Spanish champions would be known in the individual young categories and, as is expected, the promises of national surfing did not disappoint. The Basque were the ones who rose with the largest number of trophies, a total of four Spanish champions made all the attendees to the beach of Doniños enjoy. In the category sub 12, Kai Odriozola; sub 14 female, Janire González; sub 16 male, Iker Amatriain and sub 18 female, Nadia Erostarbe. The other communities that also marked their locker were: Galicia with Ignacio Guisassola (sub 18 male), Asturias with Nerea Donaire (sub 16 female) and Canarias with Moses Dominguez (sub 14 male).

The day left historical moments for national surfing as the first coronation of a surfer under 12 years of age. The Basque Kai Odriozola, with a score of 14.35, is the youngest champion in history. The elders also left flashes of the great moment so that surfing lives in our country, proof of this was the male end sub 18 in which the Galician Ignacio Guissaola, with 14.00 points, was proclaimed champion in a hard and fought final by all the competitors. The other acclaimed end from the beach was that of the sub 16, in which with a fantastic air the Basque Iker Amatriain managed to impose its surf and finally get the national title with a score of 12.05.

The girls also showed their full potential and did so forcefully. The Basque Nadia Erostarbe was imposed in the final sub 18 with a total score of 14.65. On the other hand, the Asturian promise Nerea Donaire, with a great surf, managed to take one of the most acclaimed endings from the shore, a score of 9.40 was good for it to avoid the first position of the classification. The highest score of the day was starred by the canary Moses Dominguez with a wave of 8.50 points and a better combination of 16.00 points that were worth to be proclaimed Spanish champion in the male sub-14 category.

The youngest of the championship left three days of amazing surfing and give the witness to the Open categories and the Longboard, Kneeboard and Adapted Surf modalities that were held over the weekend.

Within the Surf Junior class, 5 categories are differentiated by age and gender: Surf Sub 14 Male; Surf Sub 14 Female; Surf Sub 16; Surf Sub 18 Male and Surf Sub 18 Female.
