The Abanca Week in Asturias, Galicia and Portugal and enters the Pyragüismo
The 2017 Abanca Week will be held from 16 September to 11 November with the Vigo Ria, the Gran Porto, Gijón, the Sada Ria in A Coruña, the Pontevedra Ria and Baiona Bay. It will be almost two months of competition with sailing races, traditional rowing, Olympic rowing and pyragüism, which will be the great novelty of this event considered strategic by the Xunta de Galicia and the most important of Spain in its type, in which they are estimated to participate in total about three thousand athletes, with a strong presence of the base sport.
After the entry of the rowing three editions ago there was a great deal of interest both from Abanca and from the Organizing Committee that had the presence of one of the most laureate sports in our country: Piragüism. And that interest has come true because the Galician Federation of Piragüismo has granted without expiry date to the Abanca Week the Galicia Cup, which in its first edition will be held in the waters of the river of Vigo, under the organization of the federation itself and the Olívico Club. They will participate on half a thousand pyrages of the children, cadet, youth and women categories. The project is very ambitious in the medium term and is already working on a large world-wide Olympic race by 2018 or 2019.
Another of the new developments will be the rowing competitions that will be held in the Pontevedra era based in Marin and that will cover the categories of traditional rowing, Olympic rowing and ergometer rowing, all of them also with the rank of Galicia Cup, qualified by the Galician Federation of Remo that will work with the Remo Ria de Marin Clube. On the horizon to celebrate in Marín a great race of national sea rowing and one of international Olympic rowing. In the next few days, the main sponsor of the "mini-week of rowing" will be released and completed with the Galicia Remo Gala, which also has the support of the Concello de Marín.
The optimist will play the Kinder Trophy, with both tests in the Grand Port, in charge of the Leixóes Atlantic Sailing Clube and in Gijón with the organization of the Royal Astur Club of Gijón Regates. The cruises will have two tests: one in the northern area that will be held between the Ries of Sada, Ares and A Coruña, the Regata Terras Guda, organized by the Nautic Club of Sada and the other in the Ria of Vigo, the Trophy Villa de Bouzas- Navioncis that takes place the Maritime Liceo of Bouzas. The total figures will be in the order of the 200 optimist and about 100 cruises.
The light candle will have two events: the first is the Coca Cola Series that will open the Week under the auspices of the Canido Maritime Club, and the extreme laser Gadis Regatta in Bouzas. In 2018, the European Master Laser Championship, which will be part of next year's Abanca Week, was awarded to the Maritime Liceo and the Maritime Vigo Club.
As a close in the Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona will be held Iberonautics, congress of nautical sports tourism with sustainability by flag. This is a very important edition of the Abanca Week, which extends over time by having no less than ten cycles, and which aims to be established as a reference of the Spanish nautical in the Iberian autumn.
