02 / 06 / 2017: The Rafael Olmedo Cup of Solitaire Navigators and A Two to stage with the Galician in play
More than 30 regatists from different nautical clubs in Galicia are held tomorrow in the Rías Baixas the Galician Championship of Solitaries and A Two, a test whose main characteristic is that the sailboats will be manned by no more than one or two people. At 11: 00 in the morning, the fleet of ships arrived from Sada, Portosín, Bouzas, Punta Lagoa, Canido or Baiona, and a couple of them from Portugal and the United Kingdom, will hear the exit signal inside Baiona Bay, from where they will take their way to Camouco lighthouse, opposite the island of Ons.
About 40 miles of round trip that the crews will face with good conditions, as weather forecasts announce a north-west wind with an average of 12 knots, which could increase to 24 in the first hour of the afternoon. Among the competitors we will see regular faces of this type of race with reduced crews. There will be, among others, the current champion of solitaries, Jean Claude Sarrade; or José María Peinó, who will try to improve the third position he achieved in the previous edition of the championship. Victor Carrión and Ana Sardiña on board the Menudeta, and Enrique Porto and Damián Puebla on the J80 Ferralemes are other favorites to get the title A Dos. And in a mostly male fleet, the presence of a ship manned only by women, the Pazo de Cea, in which María Campos and Rita Hernández will compete.
30 / 05 / 2017: Galician of solitaires and two with the Rafael Olmedo Cup in play, this weekend in Baiona
The Galician Federation of Vela has chosen the Mount Real Club of Yates to organize, for the sixth year in a row, the Galician Championship of Solitaries and A Two, a competition that sponsors Insermos Energía and that the Baionés club will dedicate to the unforgettable President Rafael Olmedo. The test, which will be held next Saturday, is, by its characteristics, one of the most exciting of the sailing season in Galicia, since in it they compete sailing boats with crews reduced to the maximum, with one or two regatists on board.
Participants must complete a 30-41 mile tour with steps required by different points of the Rías Baixas. After crossing the exit line inside Baiona Bay, the boats will take their way to the Barallones and La Negra beacons, in the vicinity of the Estelas Islands. They will then cross the entrance of the river of Vigo into the islands of Cis and go to the lighthouse of Camouco, in front of the island of Ons, in the mouth of the river of Pontevedra. From there, the return to Baiona will begin, where the point of arrival will be installed in front of the Tenca tower. The new technologies will have a prominent presence in the competition thanks to the mobile application eStela, through which each boat will transmit its position in real time. In addition to providing security to the championship, this system will allow the public to follow the live test through a web at all times.
It was the fall of 1981, he had at the Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona a year as director-manager, when the navigator Miguel Lago presented me in the old office of the president to one of the most emblematic characters of the Spanish nautical of all time... the director then of Yate and Motonautica... the Italian based in Barcelona Nino Beguetti... that day Don Miguel made me a triple favor: first give me the opportunity to personally meet Nino, second to give me the idea of making a regatta of solitaries and a2 (they had never celebrated in the Galician waters and the third year of the Motonaute... I was not to be a good one of the one that they had been a good one of the one that they had not to be a good one of the one of the Italian. Well, we put the race in motion the following August under the patronage of Stylmark. We managed to get some 30 ships out of the water and I remember that he won in solitaire Luis Sacragquete with Fury 28 "Sumcris" and in a2 if I don't betray the memory I think he won the Puma 34 "Undine" of German engineer Guillermo Keilhoz, who was an impressive collector of electric trains Märklin, and who sailed with Luis Pérez. I took out a real "Lacoste pole" for each participant, premium-vouchers, support advertising at Faro de Vigo and the cost of the poster that designed that magnificent drawing-designer that is Rosendo (Cholas' older brother the vigués who was a national female basketball selector)... began from that sponsorship. Years later, in the '90s, I convinced Don Rafael (that is, I put a sablazo and the fat), to pay for a glass of splendid silver that would bear his name and never be won on property... and I acquired it at the Swiss Jewelry in the Naughty... that if you look at it is a smaller reproduction of the Cup of the King of Football.
