The 44 Sail Trophy Count of Godó celebrates its status as a dean regatta
From 1 to 4 June, it will be held in the waters of Barcelona, under the organization of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona (RCNB), the 44th edition of the Sail Trophy Conde Godó, one of the most prestigious nautical competitions of the national calendar and the race of class of Spanish cruise.
This noon the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona and the collaborating institutions have given the pistoletazo of the account back at the official presentation of the race, which has been chaired by the director of the Consell Català de l'Esport of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Toni Reig; the Commissioner of Sports of the Ajuntament of Barcelona, David Escudé; Joaquim Barenys, of the Federació Catalana de Vela, and Ana Godó, on behalf of the Group Godó, in addition to the president and vice-commander of the RCNB, Fèlias and Escalas, respectively, Ribas.
Escalas has celebrated that the great race of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona already reaches the 44th edition and has emphasized that it is "a great pride for the club and the city to organize a sports test of this category," after thanking the collaboration of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Ajuntment of Barcelona and, in particular, of the Godó family, since the Trophy was born in 1974 on the initiative of Carlos Godó, second Count of Godó, by then President of the RCNB.
David Escudé has emphasized the idea that it is the dean race of cruises in the Spanish sail: "Let it be the 44th edition means that much work has been done and confirms that Barcelona is international capital in the organization of sports events, thanks to visionaries who took the initiative and clubs that have continued to work for the promotion of sport."
As Damián Ribas, the RCNB's vice-comandor, has explained, the competition convokes the classes of cruise ORC and mono-type J80, as last year, and is expected to participate between 50 and 60 ships in which it is, along with the Puig Vela Classica Barcelona - which takes place this year from 12 to 15 July and which celebrates its tenth anniversary - one of the two major international competitions of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona.
A week and a half from the competition, 37 teams in the ORC class and 8 in J80 have completed their registration. Among them, they will defend title three of last year's four winners: Rafael Carbonell's Rats on Fire (ORC 0-1) - which will fight for its eighth Godó and the fifth consecutive -, Miquel Banus's Fanytas (ORC 3-4) and the Ramón Pelayo Abogados Marbella Team de Pepequin Orbaneja (J80). Eight countries are represented: in addition to Spain, there are ships from Greece, Portugal, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium and France.
