All classes already compete in the Sail Racing PalmaVela
About 130 ships today filled the bay of Palma with candles to fight the second day of competition of the Sail Racing PalmaVela. The wind took time to settle, but allowed all classes to sail.
After yesterday's premiere for the Wally, Maxi 72, IRC, ClubSwan 50 and Swan 45 classes, today the bulk of the fleet, formed by the ORC, Classics and the AICO J80, Sotheby's Dragon and Flying Fifteen classes, was incorporated into the competition. The menu of the day consisted of a coastal test for the ORC, IRC and Classics, and barlovento-sotavento format for the rest.
The fleet went out into the water with the wind forecast of Levante and the threat of a transition to the south-east, with potential risk of disrupting the program. In the end, although late in several classes, everyone would be able to compete.
The provisional leaders at the end of the second day are: Nahita (Wally), Momo (Maxi 72), Aegir / Seven Seas (IRC 1), Music (IRC 2), Earlybird (ClubSwan 50), Elena Nova (Swan 45), Audax Energia (ORC 0-A), Il Corvo (ORC 0-B), Airlan Aermec (ORC 1), Just the Job (ORC 2), Yabadaba (ORC 3), Diafreo Mallorca (ORC), JAiya (Soyos), Soyas (Soyos), Soyas (Soyas), Soyas (Soyas), Soyas (Soyas), Soyas (Soyas), Soyas (Soyas), Soyas (Soyas), Soyas (Soyas), Soyas (Soyas), Soyas (Soyas), Soyas (Soyas), Soyas, Soyas, Soyas, Soyas, Soyas
Wally: Nahita gets in front
The 12 Wally changed yesterday's coastal format for a barlovento-sotavent 9.2-mile tour that was delayed almost two hours over the schedule due to the instability of the wind in its regatta area, in front of the El Arenal area. The fastest to complete it was to be Thomas Bscher's Open Season, which was just for four seconds on the arrival line to the Magic Carpet Cubed of Sir Lindsay Owen Jones, yesterday's winner. After the compensation of times, the victory would be the Nahita patronized by William Palmer, who is the new interim leader.
Maxi 72: Bella Minte is reshaped
The American Bella Mente was going out in the water today with the intention of correcting his discreet results of yesterday (2-3), which made him leave from the third position of the provisional. He did it in the first manga of the day, with a victory that allowed him to climb a position in the classification at the expense of Pepe Cannonball. Momo, third in this test, retains the lead after two days and three partials, but with minimal advantage over Hap Fauth's team.
ClubSwan 50: Mathilde wins, Earlybird leads
Both Nauthor's Swan classes came out in the water with a forecast of up to three barlovento-sotavento sleeves, but conditions allowed only one to be completed. In ClubSwan 50, the day's victory was for the Swiss Mathilde of Morten Kielland, in a manga that began with off-line Niramo. The provisional continues to be headed by the German Earlybird patrolling by Peter Finis, second in today's test.
Swan 45: Elena Nova does not fail
In the Swan 45 class, the German Elena Nova of Christian Plump maintained its relentless performance, and today it scored its fourth partial victory of four possible, the best palmaris of the entire fleet in this 14th Sail Racing PalmaVela.
IRC: Victories for Aegir and Music
The IRC today competed in coastal format on a 32-mile tour. In IRC 1, the fastest was the Aegir / Seven Seas of Romain Mouchel and Markus Kemp, which crossed the arrival after just over three and a half hours of race. This result sharpens the British team at the front of the provisional, with an impeccable card and three partial wins of three possible. In IRC 2, time compensation gave the victory to the Music of Huber Ruedi, the new leader of the category.
ORC: Cost for the six groups
The ORC fleet, the largest in this edition with almost 60 ships, today debuted with a coastline for each of its six groups. The Committee established a 26-mile tour, which would eventually be shortened to 18 in the 2-3-4 groups due to wind instability. The winners of the day, and first leaders of the class, have been Audax Energy (ORC 0-A), Il Corvo (ORC 0-B), Airlan Aermec (ORC 1), Just the Job (ORC 2), Jabadaba (ORC 3) and Diafreo Mallorca (ORC 4). In ORC 0-B, the April Fish was colliding with the Silveren Swaen in the exit procedure, having both to return to port in blank, although tomorrow they will be able to haggle.
In AICO J80, the first leader of the week is the local Opera Season of Pedro Marí (after scoring 3-1-1). At Flying Fifteen, the provisional is headed by Michael Clough's Speedy Gonzales (2-1). At Sotheby's Dragon, the day ended with a triple tie in the head and lead for Alexander Shmid's Russian Stasya (1-4).
Among the Classics, the winners were Marigan (Crab), Sonata (Bermuda) and Calima (Spirit of Tradition).
On the ground, today the participants have again enjoyed the breakfast of Fibonacci before going out into the water. On their return, Puro Beach was waiting for them with paella, Martin Codax tasting and the live music of the Round Shaped Triangles Band group.
They all sail tomorrow
Tomorrow Saturday the Hansa 303 (individual and double) class components will join the competition, which this weekend their Spanish Cup. The entire fleet will compete in the bay of Palma, where the Committee will establish four areas of race, with barlovento-sotavento tests for all classes. The first departure of the day is scheduled for 12: 00.
