Following the general meeting of AECIO-IODA Spain, held during the Spanish Cup in Altea, the members of the class supported with their votes the clubs that will organize the championship, cup and national team... the Nàutic Sa Ràpita Club and the Royal Nautical Club of Torrevieja will host the official training of the Spanish team with views to the World Cup of Thailand and the European championships of Bulgaria and Italy

The Optimist fleet in Spain already has, in the beginning and except for changes, its three headquarters to house in 2018 the three main races of the class: Spanish Championship, with the Nautical Club Cambrils as protagonist, Spanish Cup at the Real Club Mediterranean in Malaga and the Spanish Team Championship that will take place in the Alicantino Club of Campoamor. The members of the class supported the three headquarters with their votes, following the general assembly held at the last Spanish Cup of Altea. The next step, and following the guarantees presented by AECIO IODA Spain to the Royal Spanish Vela Federation, is expected to ratify these headquarters to organize these three important races. The dates are still to be confirmed, although some changes may be made given international commitments (World and European 2018).

The 2016 accounts and the 2017 budget were approved at that meeting. The official class training for the World Cup in Thailand, European in Bulgaria and Team Racing in Italy were also established. Following the Spanish championship at the Reial Club Nàutic in Port de Pollença, a race to be held between 25 June and 1 July, the national team composed of 12 members (5 classified for the world and 7 for the European) will conduct training and technical talks at the Club Nàutic Sa Rípita from 2 to 5 July. The team leaving Bulgaria European, with five members, will play a three-day team racing at the Royal Torrevieja Nautical Club's headquarters before travelling to Ledro (Italy).
