The Maybe has been one of the attractions at the Palma Boat Show 2017.

Palma is among the five best places in the world dedicated to the repair and maintenance of superyachts (ships over 24 meters long), according to Marta Iglesias, spokesman for the Palma Superyacht Show that is part of the Nautical Hall of Palma.

Iglesias explains that the great professionals and the quality of their work form the basis for the capital to be in the "Top 5" of the destinations for the repair of large lengths.

"The main shipyards in the construction of superyachts, such as Nauthor Swan or Pendennis, have opened an office in Palma because they know that this is where the reform and maintenance of their ships are best carried out," he says.

Marta Iglesias, who was vice president of Myba, the Superyacht World Association, which covers from rent, management to repair and construction, ensures that this industry generates stable employment, with a "very high percentage of indefinite contracts, good salaries and more workers are needed."

Of the 67 superyachts in exhibition in this edition of Palma Boat Show, 70% are sailing and the rest of the engine, when in the rest of fairs like Monaco and Cannes the motor ships represent almost 80%.

This has helped to place the "Salon de Palma in the European calendar of nautical competitions, and to become the one that the largest number of sailing superyachts exposes in the world," he says.

In this sense, Iglesias believes that the specialization of the Nautical Hall of Palma has the advantage that "it distinguishes you with the rest of the world's competitions although it also limits you."

"There is no other competition with the convening power of this event for sailing superyachts, which shows that Palma is a natural center for the navigation of these ships," he adds.

One of the most important developments of this year is the area of Repair & Refit Show which, with 1,100 meters, has a total of 21 exhibitors dedicated exclusively to the maintenance, repair and modernization of the superyachts.

"It was an idea that started from the very industry of the great length, which we already wanted to start last year, but we did not arrive in time. We are very satisfied with how it is working and expect growth in next editions," he concludes.
