France creates a tax on covert accommodation on recreational ships
According to the prestigious French nautical publication Bateaux, the pressures and repeated complaints of the hotel associations to the Government of France have obtained the fruits desired by the collective... a new legislation that creates a tax on the housing use of recreational ships among individuals has seen the light... is a series of new tax and taxa applications, such as the attempt to tax the simple use of habitual residence of many sailors in the country of Galo, or their sporadic occupation on holiday or weekends. What is most concerned in the sector at the level of our country is that countries like France are pioneers in this type of legislation... and it would not be surprising that in the medium term or even in the short term the Spanish authorities are still on the same path. The application of the regulations of this new tax will be on the number of useful beds of each ship, whether the sailing or motor yachts, Bateaux adds that the government has very discreetly approved the decree to be in operation quickly, so it is believed that from 9 May it will have immediate effect.
The struggle of the Galician hosts against private rental websites such as "Airbnb," which according to these associations have caused the sector to lose the order of 35 million euros per year, due to private rental practices, and add that in many cases sports marinas have become real floating hotels. The new French tax will be applied per bed... all bunk at least 50 cm wide by 1.80 m long will have a fee of 1,000 euros per year. For example, the tax applies to a fixed rate... to a boat with 8 original bunks, a fee of 8,000 euros per year will be applied. The Nautical Federation is already looking for a way to mitigate the effects of this harsh legislation: "All the members of the Federation have to fight with the legality in hand against this legislative overstatement... but unfortunately since we cannot repeal it, for the moment we can only advise and for the time being we harass all our affiliates who immediately only maintain those bunks that are strictly essential, for the use and enjoyment of their ship."
