Mapfre manages to sign Willy Altadill a 24-year-old jewel for the World Turn Regatta

At the age of 24, the Barceloness Willy Altadill will fight his second Volvo Ocean Race... is one of the two crew members under the age of 30 of the Mapfre to meet the requirements of the rules of the World Tour
At the age of 22 Willy Altadill, born in Barcelona and son of the renowned Catalan rover Guillermo Altadill, debuted in the Volvo Ocean Race and did so in the Mapfre... now, at the age of 24, the Basque pattern Xabi Fernández retrusted him to be part of his crew in the 2011-18 edition of the sailing world that will leave Alicante next October."My work on board will be to help the guard heads get the ship to go as fast as possible; I will be one of the trimmers", confirms the Catalan regatist. In the last edition he joined the Spanish team in the fourth stage, between Sanya (China) and Auckland (New Zealand), and could not have had a better debut than a deserved and worked victory after more than 6,000 miles of competition between the China Sea and the Pacific Ocean, from North to South, to New Zealand. Willy is already under team discipline in the Galician town of Sanxenxo, where the Mapfre base is installed. In the words of the Catalan regatist: "The aim of these months before the start of the race is to push the ship as much as possible. Try to 'break' things, so to speak, and then don't break during the race and calibrate the electronics to have all the right boat numbers so you can squeeze it to the maximum. We've started early this time and it's all a little bit more formed from the beginning. We have more time to try the boat, the candles and get all the juice out of the boat to be ready when the race starts."
The first sub30 of the Mapfre As specified in the regulations of the Volvo Ocean Race, each and each of the participating ships must have between their crew two regatists under the age of 30. For the second consecutive edition, Willy will be one of them on board the Mapfre. "The Volvo Ocean Race has a rule by which all ships must include crew under 30 years of age. In the last edition I was one of those crew under 30 and this year too. Possibly in the future I have another chance to be a crew under 30... personally it's a rule that helped me a lot to navigate with people with a lot of experience and learn a lot from them, which was what I did in the last edition and it's something that now helps me to get to the ship knowing exactly how everything works and keep evolving," for Altadill.
