HCL Technologies, a global technology service provider, will be the official technology service provider of the Volvo Ocean Race, developing and implementing the technology solutions needed for the 2017-18 edition along the 45,000 nautical miles that will travel the race around the world. This sponsorship offers a unique opportunity for HCL, which has a large infrastructure with offices in 32 countries, to work in collaboration with the race to offer a global technology platform, which will help fans to follow the ships during their eight-month ocean marathon and assist all the race's headquarters around the world. The technological infrastructure being developed in collaboration with HCL will be the backbone of the television production and streaming of the Volvo Ocean Race for key events such as exits, arrivals and In-Port races.

In addition, the agreement includes vital tools such as internal connectivity between the different stops of the race, the sending of digital content, mobile data centres and infrastructure with double resources, Wi-Fi networks and multimedia facilities for press centres and race offices. HCL will provide the technological support from beginning to end to mount the Race Villages at the 12 stops, allowing the Volvo Ocean Race to offer a great visual experience to its fans while following the ships during the ocean stages, and to the stops in all the headquarters around the world. Mark Turner, CEO of the Volvo Ocean Race, said: "The next edition of the Volvo Ocean Race will have a greater digital focus than ever. Connecting the three million visitors in the Race Villages, the 5,000 accredited journalists and our millions of fans around the world is an immense task. Building the complex technological infrastructure we use in this round of the world is a huge challenge and we are confident that this agreement with HCL Technologies will allow us to offer fans, media and sponsors a more connected experience than ever."
