One gold, two plates and two bronzes has been the final harvest for the Spanish sailing team at the 48 Trophy Princess Sofia Iberostar, after six days of competition in the waters of Palma Bay. The Galician Fernando Echávarri and the Canary Tara Pacheco have been proclaimed champions of Nacra 17, the Alicantino Iván Pastor and the Cantabrian Diego Botín and the Galician Iago López Marra have hung the silver of RS: X M and 49er, respectively, and the Catalan duo formed by Jordi Xammar and Nico Rodríguez and the Catalan canarian crew of Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero have gone up to the third drawer of the podium in 470, in the male and female category.
The Spanish regatists had been classified for these finals in nine of the ten classes (all except in Finn), and six teams arrived in podium position, two of them with a medal already secured: the Alicantino Ivan Pastor, in RS: X M, and the Galician Fernando Echávarri and the canary Tara Pacheco, in Nacra 17. One gold, two plates and two bronzes has been the final harvest for the national combination, when last year only one bronze was achieved, by the hand of Botín and López Marra in 49er.
The end of Nacra 17 has had to be cancelled due to overwind. The fleet of ten ships classified for the medal race have waited until 3: 00 in the afternoon to see if the wind was glowing, but the conditions have not improved, so the classification has remained as yesterday, with Fernando Echávarri and Tara Pacheco in front of the table. The canary Galician tandem, which he had on the podium since the third day, and had the silver already secured, is thus raised with the victory with 16.45 points of advantage over the subchampions, the British John Gimson and Anna Burnet. The Danish Lin Cenholt and Christian Peter Lubeck have completed the podium. Iker Martínez and his new crew, the Ukrainian Russian Olga Maslivets, have finished seven.
The same situation has occurred in 49er, with the three races medals cancelled by the excessive wind. Diego Botín and Iago López Marra go up to the second podium drawer, in the same square they went to sleep last night. In a podium position from the second day, the Galician singing team would have faced the final with the leaders at one point, therefore with options to fight for gold, and hence the desire that the young crew had to go out to regatta. On the podium of the Olympic Skiff, two British teams are accompanied by the Spanish: James Peters and Flynn Stortt as champions, and Dylan Fletcher- Scott and Stuart Bithell in the third drawer.
Ivan Pastor (Movistar) wins the title of subchampion of the Sofia. The RS: X M class has released a new competition system, in which the winner of the opening series, who was the Alicantino regatist, went directly to the great final to decide the order on the podium, in a race of only three ships, in which the tests performed on the previous sleeves were not taken into account. The windsurfer of Santa Pola has entered second in this final, so he hangs the silver medal after a round championship, in which he has been from the first day in a medal position. The winner has been Polish Pawel Tarnowski, and completes the Korean podium Taehoon Lee.
In 470 F, Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero have remained fourth in the medal race, which played the eight best crews of a total fleet of 42. Thanks to this position in the final, they have been able to maintain the third place in the general, bringing up the Sofia podium, along with the Dutch Aphrodite Zegers and Anneloes Van Veen, who hang the gold, and the Polacas Agnieszka Skrzypulec and Jolanta Orar, who are proclaimed subchampions. Bronze is a surprising result for the Catalan canary duo, who first formed a team a few weeks ago.
Jordi Xammar and Nico Rodríguez (Movistar) have also hung in the waters of the bay of Palma the bronze medal, in 470 M. The Catalan-Galician tandem was in second place yesterday and has gone out to fight for gold in the final, reserved for the eight best ships in this class. It has entered sixth, two ships ahead of those who were leaders until yesterday, the Swedish Carl- Fredrik Fock and Marcus Dackhammar, but it has not enough to reach glory. The occasion was taken by the Japanese Tetsuya Isozaki and Akira Takayanagi, who were third parties yesterday, to mark a third in the medal race and thus advance their two rivals in the general. Japan, Sweden and Spain, by this order, make up the final podium of 470 M, more tight than ever because only one point has distanced the first from the second and the second from the third.
The sevillana Marina Paliau has been one of those damaged by the new competition format that has been tested in the RS class: X F. The Spanish woman, who has been on the provisional podium of the class since Tuesday, today has seen her medal possibilities truncated by not getting the pass to the great final, by being eliminated in the semifinal. The third position that he has achieved in the semifinal has not been enough, because only the first two classified would access the final, in which they competed three tables to decide the color of the presea of each competitor. The gold was obtained by the Polish Nightly Zofia - Klepacka: yesterday he certified the direct pass to the final and today he won it. She has also been the absolute winner of the 48 Princess Sofia Iberostar Trophy, the best among all the winners of the Majorcan competition.
In Laser, Joel Rodríguez was facing the classic-format medal race from the fourth square, but without a choice to reach the medals. The young grancanary regatist, who has held a great championship, has marked a second in this final double score, and ends right at the doors of the podium, in the fourth place of a fleet composed of a total of 134 boats.
31 / 03 / 2017: Spain ties two metals and will be in four finals in the Sofia Iberostar
The Alicantine windsurfer Ivan Pastor has already secured the medal in the 48 Trophy Princess Sofia Iberostar, in RS: X M, in the absence of a final race in which the color of the presea will be decided. The podium is also guaranteed for Fernando Echávarri and the canary Tara Pacheco, who are first of Nacra 17 and who practically already caress gold. Four more Spanish crews will fight the finals of their respective classes in podium position: second are the Sevillian Marina Paliau in RS: X F, the cantabre Diego Botín and the Galician Iago López Marra in 49er and the Catalan Jordi Xammar and the Galician Nico Rodríguez in 470 M, while the Catalan Silvia Mas and the Canary Islands Patricia Cantero march third in 470 F.
Ivan Pastor (Movistar) has secured the medal in the RS: X M class, at the first end of the opening series, of which the last two sleeves have been completed today. The Alicantino regatist has signed a pinch, which is discarded, and a third, partial, which, according to the new format of competition that is premiered in Mallorca, allow it to pass directly to the great end of tomorrow, reserved for the three best. Pastor will not have to fight either the final or the semi-final rooms, from which the other two regatists will come out who will fight in the great final to rise to the top of the podium. The three tables will be assured of the presea, in the absence of deciding only the positions. The balar regatist Sergi Scandinell, on the other hand, has completed the opening series in the tenth square, thus advancing to the final quarters, to which they go from the third to the tenth second classified, while the second goes directly to the semifinal. In the final rooms, Scandinell will have the option to qualify for the semi-final, if it is among the first five.
In the female category of Olympic windsurfing, RS: X F, Marina Paliau (Movistar) has improved one post since yesterday after signing a quarter and a second in the partials of the day. The London 2012 Olympic Champion thus closes the opening series in second place, and advances directly to the semifinal, skipping the quarter finals. There, in a six-party race, he will fight to stay one of the first two and go to the big final to fight for the gold medal on a three-board sleeve, for which the Polish Nightly Zofia-Klepacka has already obtained the direct pass. Otherwise, its final classification in the 48 Princess Sofia Iberostar Trophy will be the result in the semi-final - without counting the score of the serious opening.
"We do not know very well what will happen to the new format," said Marina Praise. It will be very important to be well prepared because conditions seem to be completely different from those we have had so far. It is clear that making a good exit and a good trim will be important as well as getting a good speed. I think you have to be a little aggressive on the way out to be in front. The fact that there are people who will have already made a sleeve before I can favor them by being already more concentrated, but anything can happen. I feel a lot of encouragement and a lot of force for tomorrow. "
In Nacra 17, Fernando Echávarri and Tara Pacheco are first of the general, after signing today two partial wins and a second. The Spanish representatives in Rio 2016 will play tomorrow the medal race, reserved for the first ten and double score, in the classic format. In this final they will only have to defend the gold of a ship, that of the British John Gimson and Anna Burnet, which have 16.45 points more than the Spanish. The provisional podium is completed by the Danish Lin Cenholt and Christian Peter Lubeck, but without the possibility to advance Echávarri and Pacheco. The medal race will also include Iker Martínez and Olga Maslivets, classified in the seventh square.
In 49er, Diego Botín and Iago López Marra are also located in the second place, after being marked today two first and one tenth first. The Galician singing duo has only one point to the leaders, the British James Peters and Fynn Stortt, and they have a 12-point margin over the third, the British also Dylan Fletcher-Scott and Stuart Bithell. The rooms, with 24 more points than the Spanish, are the Argentines Yago and Klaus Lange. Tomorrow the ten best ships will play the medal races: three simple score sleeves, whose final score (with 30 points in play) will be added to the opening series score, so everything can pass. The Assyrian brothers Federico and Arturo Alonso will also be in the game of the finals, classified in the sixth square, but without the option of reaching the podium.
Also in the second square is the Spanish crew of 470 M, composed of the Catalan Jordi Xammar and the Galician Nico Rodríguez. The recently formed tandem has added today a third, an eighth and a fifth, which has allowed it to remain in the second drawer of the provisional podium, in the absence of only the great end of tomorrow, in which it has the bronze almost secured. In this class, eight ships will contest this decisive, double-score test, to which result the opening series points are added to obtain the final classification. Xammar and Rodríguez have options to fight for gold, for the moment in the hands of the Swedish Carl-Fredrik Fock and Marcus Dackhammar, who have five points less than the Spanish. The classified third parties, which are the Japanese Tetsuya Isozaki and Akira Takayanagi, have only four more points, so they can dispute the silver with the Catalan duo. The rooms - the Russians Pavel Sozykin and Denis Gribanov- accumulate 14 points more than Xammar and Rodríguez, so that it is mathematically very difficult for them to get rid of the podium.
Jordi Xammar explained after the sleeves: "We have had a classic day of those of Palma, with 'embat' from 12 to 14 knots. Under these conditions the races are very tight. Being four meters in front or behind could mean riding between the first five or being between 15 and 20. We've needed a lot of concentration not to give in an inch. Tomorrow, no conservative plan. We have to go out and fight for the gold."
In 470 F, with the same system of competition for the final, the Catalan Silvia Mas and the Canary Islands Patricia Cantero march third, with a ninth, a tenth and a third in the partial of the day. At the end of eight ships and 16 points at stake, Spanish can from taking the gold to losing everything. The new leaders are the Dutch Aphrodite Zegers and Anneloes Van Veen, with five points less than the second, which are the Polish Agnieszka Skrzypulec and Jolanta Ogar. Spanish women accumulate eight points more than the first and three points more than the second, so they can fight for both silver and gold. In turn, the Italian Elena Berta and Sveva Carraro, four with five more points than Mas and Cantero, have options to make them fall from the precious podium, as do the quintas and the sextas, which have only one more point than the quartas. The end will certainly be very exciting. A final for which the Catalan Bàrbara Cornudella and Sara López have not been classified, which have finished novies in the Majorcan race.
The fifth day of competition of the 48 Trophy Princess Sofia Iberostar has not been Joel Rodríguez's best day. With a disqualified and a tenth, the canary falls from the first to the fourth position in Laser's provisional general, to 19 points of provisional bronze, so it has lost its options. In this class ten ships dispute the medal race, which is double score, and whose points are added to those of the opening series to obtain the final classification. The also canary Joaquín Blanco has now finished his participation in the Sofia, ending in the tenth square.
In Laser Radial, the surprise was Martina Reino, who, after a seventh and a fourth were marked today, managed to ascend from the tenth square that he occupied yesterday to a meritorious fifth position, with options to fight for the third podium drawer in tomorrow's medal race. Although it is mathematically quite difficult, it has provisional bronze at eight points. Its maximum rivals will be two Finnish, Monika Mikkola, who is third, and Tuula Tennanen, who marches fourth. At the front of the table and with only one point of difference between them, the Chinese Dongshuang Zhang and Viktorija Andrulyte will hit for the final gold. The Catalan sisters Carla and Marta Munté will also be in the medals of their class, 49er FX, which they will face from the eighth square.
In Finn, Catalan Alex Muscat has finished in the tenth place, after making a ninth in today's classification. This test was used to define the first five ships that advanced to the semifinal, where they met the third, fourth and fifth of the opening series. From the semifinal, the first three move to the great end of tomorrow, when they will face the first and second of the opening series.
30 / 03 / 2017: Already close to the finals Spain holds three oros in the Princess Sofia Iberostar
Up to three Spanish crews lead the 48 Princess Sofia Iberostar Trophy in their respective classes, in the absence of one more day before the late Saturday dispute. Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero (470 F) and Ivan Pastor (RS: X M) have been placed at the front of their fleets on this fourth day in the waters of Palma Bay, while Joel Rodríguez retains Laser's first position. Fernando Echávarri and Tara Pacheco (Nacra 17), Diego Botín and Iago López Marra (49er) and Jordi Xammar and Nico Rodríguez (470 M) march second, while Marina Pálau (RS: X F) is placed in the third drawer of the provisional podium.
With 646 ships and 833 regatists from 54 countries, the Majorcan race has cast the curtain on its fourth day of competition for the Olympic sailing with a total of 164 sleeves completed, a day according to the program planned. In the ten Olympic classes tomorrow's races will serve to decide which teams are classified for the big final dispute, with the Finn and the RS: X with new competition formats, which are first tested in Mallorca. In fact, the international sailing federation, World Sailing, held a meeting this afternoon at the Nàutic S'Arenal Club with the secretaries of the classes and the direction of the Sofia, with the aim of analysing the new and proposals of each class. In the first final series of 470 F, the Catalan Canary crew formed by Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero has taken a rudder to take the lead of the fleet. With a partial win, a ninth and a quarter, the young couple has been the most consistent of the day and has been placed leader, with two points of return on the second, the Chinese Mengi Wei and Yani Xu, and four on the third, which are the Dutch Aphrodite Zegers and Anneloes Van Veen. Bàrbara Cornudella and Sara López, for their part, have fallen to the tenth position.
In RS: X M, Ivan Pastor (Movistar) has also been in charge of his class, although it has not been his best day, with an eighth and a ninth in his locker. The Alicantino has two points less than its immediate persecutor, the Italian Mattia Camboni, and four less than the third, the Israeli Shahar Zubari. Joel Rodríguez retains Laser's leadership after a second and a fifth, in the gold fleet of the class, in which there are a total of 134 ships. The grancanary has become strong at the top of the podium, as it now overtakes the second ranked, the Italian Francesco Marrai, in fifteen points, eight more than yesterday. The provisional podium is completed by the British Elliot Hanson, in the absence of two more sleeves for the race medal dispute, which will take place on Saturday for the first ten ships. The also grancanary Joaquín Blanco has fallen to the tenth place, while in Laser Radial Martina Kingdom has gone up eight places to get ten second, with a sixth and a second in the sleeves of the day; eight points separate it from the top ten.
Fernando Echávarri and Tara Pacheco are located seconds from Nacra 17, just over a point and a half from the British John Gimson and Anna Burnet. The Spaniards have marked a third, a ninth and a partial triumph, which allows them to stalk the lead and accumulate a 16-point advantage over the third, the British Tom Phipps and Nikki Boniface. The best of the fleet today have been Iker Martínez and Olga Maslivets (Movistar), who have signed a first and a third, and who have then been disqualified in the third sleeve, which was a second; they keep octaves of the general. In this class there are three sleeves missing for the cut of the medal race, which on Saturday are the first ten teams.

In 49er, Diego Botín and Iago López Marra also follow seconds, after a fourth day of competition in which they have gone from less to more: they have signed a tenth, a fifth and a first. The Galician cantabre tandem is distanced by 13 points from the leaders, the British James Peters and Fynn Stortt, and it outstrips in nine the third, the British also Dylan Fletcher-Scott and Stuart Bithell. The Assyrian brothers Federico and Arturo Alonso (El Gaitero) also keep up the rhythm of the best, placed in sixth place. This class tomorrow has three more sleeves of the final series in program, and on Saturday the first ten will play three medals.
The silver medal position also includes Jordi Xammar and Nico Rodríguez, in the 470 M. class. On its first day of end, the Catalan duo has gone for all and has managed to mark a second and two fifths, thus climbing two places on the table. In the first place, the Swedish Carl- Fredrik Fock and Marcus Dackhammar accumulate a six-point margin over the Spanish, while third are the Japanese Tetsuya Isozaki and Akira Takayanagi, with two more points than Xammar and Rodríguez.
Marina Paliau has signed today a fourth and a tenth first, partial that cannot be ruled out and that has brought him down to the third position of the provisional general RS: X F, although the podium remains very compact. He leads the Polish Zofia Nocti-Klepaka, with three points of advantage over the sevillana, and second is the Russian Stefania Elfutina, which has only one point less than Paliau. The Catalan sisters Carla and Marta Munté follow their spectacular dating in the general of 49er FX. Today they have added a seventh, a third and a tenth, which has allowed them to climb to the fifth square, from the eighth place they occupied yesterday. The podium has it far away, but if they keep up the pace they're already in the square of a medal race, for which only three sleeves remain.
After completing the eight sleeves of the opening series, the fleet of 57 ships of the Finn class already makes today the first cut that premiere the new competition format. The Turkish Alican Kaynar and the Estonian Deniss Karpak, who go first and second, respectively, have already won the pass to the final, while the Catalan Alex Muscat remains the tenth and tomorrow will fight the classification for the semi-final, after which five ships will be saved.
29 / 03 / 2017: Princess Sofia Iberostar of sailing: the "armed" remains very strong in Palma
The 48 Trophy Princess Sofia Iberostar, the Olympic sailing race that is disputed until Saturday in the waters of the Bay of Palma with the participation of 646 ships and 833 regatists of 54 nations, continues to blow with favourable winds for the Spanish regatists. Marina Paliau continues to lead RS: X F, while Joel Rodríguez has recovered this position of honor in Laser. In 49er, Diego Botín and Iago López Marra are second, the same square to which Fernando Echávarri and Tara Pacheco have been raised today in Nacra 17. In addition, Ivan Pastor and Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero are third parties of RS: X M and 470 F, respectively. In 470 M, Jordi Xammar and Nico Rodríguez are also among the best, fourth to three points of leadership.
Overtaken today the equator of the competition ballar with winds from light to medium, the sevillain Marina Paliau (Movistar) continues to head the fleet of RS: X F, after marking a third and a second. The 2012 Olympic champion will face the group Oro with a two-point profit on its top rival, the Polish Nocti-Klepaka Zofia - which was bronze in London 2012-, and three on the third, Russian Stefania Elfutina - bronze in Rio 2016-. The podium of Olympic medalists has already been able to distance considerably from the rest of the fleet.
The Laser fleet has completed the first two sleeves of the final series, in which the canary Joel Rodríguez has become strong to resume the leadership. He has signed a third in the first manga of the day and then he has punctured, but it has been the first bad put in the three days of competition of the 48 Trophy Princess Sofia IBEROSTAR: in the rest of the partials, the young regatist accumulates two first, one second and two third, and thus achieves a profit of up to seven points on his immediate persecutor, the Italian Francesco Marrai. It has also been a good day for the also grancanary Joaquín Blanco, who has risen from the twenty-fourth to the tenth place of the general. In Laser Radial, the island, also Martina Reino, is still on a streak and has climbed twelve strikes in the general, to be located on the 20th.

After the first three tests of the final series of 49er, Diego Botín and Iago López Marra have managed to hold on to the provisional podium of a classification in which there are 59 ships, but they have pressed to compete with the best of the fleet, with a tenth, a fifth and a tenth as partial. The Galician cantabre tandem has given in a position and now it is going second, separated by 11 points from the new leaders, the British James Peters and Fynn Stortt, who have been very constant today. The Argentines Yago and Klaus Lange complete the podium, while the Assyrian brothers Federico and Arturo Alonso (El Gaitero) have also dropped one post and are sexted, after adding a seventh, a tenth, and a fifth.
In Nacra 17, Fernando Echávarri and Tara Pacheco have joined the provisional podium. One first, one fifth and one second in today's partials have allowed the team commanded by the 2008 Olympic gold to rise three posts in the general and to be made provisionally with the silver presea. Echávarri and his Canadian partner have the leaders, the British John Gimson and Anna Burnet, seven points away, while the third parties, the Danish Lin Cenholt and Christian Peter Lübeck, have two more than the Spanish. Iker Martínez and Olga Maslivets, for their part, have not been quite right and have been advanced by a ship, now taking eighth place.
With a third and an eighth in his locker today, the Alicantino Ivan Pastor (Movistar) remains on the provisional podium of RS: X M, the fleet of Olympic windsurfers, which tomorrow will be divided into the Gold and Silver groups. The experienced Spanish regatist moves to the next phase in the third drawer, advanced in the table by the Israeli Shahar Zubari, although they are tied to points. He is a leader, with a single point of return, the Polish Pawel Tarnowski. The Swiss nationalized ballast Mateo Sanz occupies the fourth square.
The Catalan Silvia Mas and the Canary Islands Patricia Cantero follow third of 470 F, with a second and a fifth in the last races of the qualifying series for this class. The new couple is tied with the second, the Dutch Aphrodite Zegers and Anneloes Van Veen, while the first classified, the Chinese Mengxi Wei and Yani Xu, beat them in only three points. The Spanish representatives in Rio 2016, the Catalan cousins Bàrbara Cornudella and Sara López, have ceded to the seventh position, when yesterday were fourth, but the classification remains quite compact.
"The tiredness begins to be noticed," said Mas, "it is a long championship and we cannot afford the slightest mistake because there is a lot of level and we have no margin; but we continue with energy. We didn't expect to be third, but this doesn't mean it's easy, we have to fight for every point. Patricia and I still need a little more coordination. For the moment we are getting a very good understanding of what functions each has, but we lack coordination in the maneuvers, and that is only improved with many hours at sea."
In 470 M, Jordi Xammar and Nico Rodríguez (Movistar) have improved one place in the general and are located fourth, after today signing a seventh and another partial win, their second in the championship. The Catalan team is only three points from the first classified, the Japanese Tetsuya Isozaki and Akira Takayanagi, and one of the second and third, which are the Russians Pavel Sozykin and Denis Gribanov, and the Swedish Carl-Fredrik Fock and Marcus Dackhammar. Tomorrow and Friday this class disputes the semi-final races, after which the first eight ships will pass to the great end of Saturday.
The Catalan sisters Carla and Marta Munté continue their upward progression in 49er FX and are already octaves. They signed a tenth, an eighth and a second today. To the medal race on Saturday ten ships are classified in this class, which is the target of the young Spanish team. If you pass, you will be able to test the new final format, with three very short sleeves on a stage-type circuit. In Finn, Catalan Alex Muscat has punctured on the two sleeves of the day, with a twenty-sixth and a disqualification, and has gone down to the tenth square.
The 48 Princess Sofia Iberostar Trophy ends this Saturday, with the dispute of the final trials of each class. Half of the categories will release a new competition format, but it will be the Finns and the RS: X windsurfs that will focus much of the interest, for the novelty of the changes they apply.
28 / 03 / 2017: The "armada" continues in racha in the bay of Palma in the Sofia Iberostar
The Spanish team's streak continues in the waters of the bay of Palma in the 48th Trophy Princesa Sofía Iberostar: Marina Alabau (RS: X F), Diego Botín and Iago López Marra (49er), Joel Rodríguez (Laser), Iván Pastor (RS: X M) and Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero (470 F) are the best-placed national crews, although also Barbara Cornudella and Sara López (470 F), Fernando Echávarri and Tara Pachecho (Nacra 17), Jordi Xammar and Nérico (2) are now in a provisional summary of the two-year-year-year-year-year-old, in the second-year-year-year-year-old, and-year-year-year-old, in the second-year-year-old.
The sevillain Marina Paliau (Movistar) has been placed at the top of the RS podium: X F. In the second day of the competition of the Majorcan race, the 2012 Olympic champion of London has had a triple day of victory: she has won the first manga and the second, and is placed first in the women's Olympic windsurfing fleet after climbing 11 points in the overall table. The also Sevillian Blanca Manchón, who has been a mother a few months ago, occupies the 32nd square out of a total of 58 windsurfers. The second provisional gold for the Spanish team in the waters of Palma Bay is named Diego Botín and Iago López Marra. In the 49er class, the Galician cantabre tandem has today marked two first and one ninth, to climb four posts on the table and lead the fleet of 59 ships, with five points of return on the second, the British James Peters and Flynn Stortt, and twelve on the third, the Belgians Yannick Lefebvre and Tom Pelsmaekers. The fifth square is marked by the Assyrian brothers Federico and Arturo Alonso (El Gaitero), after adding today a tenth, a third and a second.

134 ships are competing in the Laser class, the largest in this Sofia, and the Spanish Joel Rodríguez, of the Royal Nautical Club of Gran Canaria, holds on to the provisional podium, in the second drawer, tied to 4 points with the new leader, the Korean Jeemin Ha. The canary today has added his second partial victory in the two days they take away from the race and a third. In Laser Radial the also canaria Martina Reino has down four posts, to the 32nd square. These classes will have two more tests of this classification series tomorrow.
Also in RS: X M the best Spanish representative is classified in the second square. It is the Alicantino Ivan Pastor, who with a second and a quarter in today's sleeves has climbed a position. The leader, the Polish Pawel Tarnowski, beat him in four points, and completes the Italian podium Mattia Camboni, with a point more than Pastor, in a classification in which up to 96 regatists compete. The Spanish crews at 470 F are putting all the meat on the roast, in a most tight classification after this second day of regatta in Palma Bay. The Catalan-canary tandem formed by Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero resist on the podium. They are third, tied to seven points with Chinese Mengxi Wei / Yani Xu - second - and are only one point away from the leaders, Dutch Zegers and Van Veen. But Barbara Cornudella and Sara López (Kuikomboa), from the Nautico de El Balís, also do not lose court. With a fifth and their first partial victory, they are now fourth, three points from Mas and Cantero.
Bàrbara Cornudella, for its part, has referred to the new competition format of this class: "To the medal race only eight ships pass, and not ten as always, and that is something that adds pressure, to see how we solve it. For the moment, we are happy how we go in the race, although the fact of sailing by groups does not give you a global vision." His cousin and crew, Sara López, said that "this year we can see the generational change, but at the international level there are all the crews that must be."
Based on the San Antonio de la Playa Maritime Club in Can Pascilla, the Nacra 17 class has been able to complete the three tests scheduled for today, in which the two best positioned Spanish crews have made a very similar result, although the balance has now leaned towards the Galician Fernando Echávarri and the canary Tara Pachecho, which are fifth after signing a first, a tenth and a sixth. The Basque Iker Martínez and his new crew Olga Maslivets (Movistar) are septic, with a second, a sixth and a tenth first in today's assaults.
Quintos also marches the Catalan Jordi Xammar and the Galician Nico Rodríguez, in 470 M. The newly released team has managed to raise three posts in the provisional general, by today scoring a partial win in the first manga to their locker; in the next they have added a tenth, which for the moment becomes their discard. Only three points separate them from the provisional podium, but the Catalan pattern has been quite critical after the tests: "We have to keep our heads cold and do two good tests tomorrow, because we are not left out. Yesterday's results were good, a quarter and a sixth, but we are not enough, so today we have won a test, and we have achieved it, but then we may have relaxed, we have wanted to risk too much and the mistake has come."
Catalan Alejandro Muscat (Vela.cat) remains among Finn's top ten, although he has accused the tenth of the first race of the day, which is finally his discard. A sixth in the second test has given him some tranquility to stay in the sixth of the general, who leads the Estonian Deniss Karpak.
27 / 03 / 2017: Good start of the "armada" in the Sofia Iberostar in Palma
The Spanish sailing team has premiered in the 48 Trophy Princess Sofia Iberostar with very good foot, with five crews in or near the podium. The canary Joel Rodríguez leads in Laser, the Catalan Silvia Mas and the canary Patricia Cantero are second in 470 F, the alicantino Iván Pastor marches third in RS: X M, the Catalan Alex Muscat is located fourth in Finn and the Galician cantabre tandem formed by Diego Botín and Iago López Marra has been placed in the fifth place of 49er.
The canary Joel Rodríguez is the only Spanish of the ten Olympic classes in liza that leads a general, specifically that of the largest fleet, the delaser, thanks to a first and a second in the two races completed by this category. Less luck has been in the women's fleet of Laser Radial, with the first Spanish in the 28th square, Martina Reino, which, like Rodríguez, is from the RCN of Gran Canaria.

The new team that form the Galician Sofia Toro and the asturian Angela Pumariega, London Olympic Champions 2012 in Match Race, has not had a good day, as it has premiered with a premature disqualification; while waiting to be able to discard it, it is in the thirty-sixth position.
Another Spanish in podium post is the Alicantino Ivan Pastor (Movistar), who has completed a good day, with a fourth and a third in the two sleeves that has made today the fleet of RS: X M. Pastor, Spanish representative in the last four Olympic Games, begins the 48 Trophy Princess Sofia IBEROSTAR classified in the third drawer of the provisional podium, four and two points from the lead and the second square, respectively. In the fleet of 58 windsurfers of RS: X F, four Spaniards compete, and curiously the four Andalusians: Marina Paliau (Movistar), Blanca Manchón, Pilar Lamadrid (Lama) and Blanca Carracedo. Paliau, the Olympic champion in London 2012, is the best position: march in the tenth square, ten points from the podium.
The 56 ships that make up the 470 Male fleet have contested the two tests planned for this opening day of the IBEROSTAR Sofia. The first Spanish on the table are Jordi Xammar and Nico Rodríguez (Movistar). With a quarter and a sixth of the day's partials, the Catalan and the Galician are in the seventh place of the provisional general, six points from a podium led by the Russians Pavel Sozykin and Denis Gribanov.
The two Spanish crews of Nacra 17 have started at a similar level. The Basque Iker Martínez, which forms a new team with the Ukrainian Russian Olga Maslivets, has been placed seventh, after adding a third, a tenth and a ninth. Fernando Echávarri and his partner, the canaria Tara Pacheco, have scored to his locker a ninth, a fifth and a seventh, to be placed in the eighth provisional position. The two national teams are tied to points, separated by six points from the third podium drawer.
In 49er FX, which in the Sofia Iberostar is an open class to female, mixed or male crews, the Catalan sisters Munté, Carla and Marta march in the tenth place, after completing three sleeves in this class.

Sofia Iberostar: Cruises, dragons and J80 finish... the Olympic candle begins
The Bay of Palma has today fired the J80, ORC and Dragon classes, which in this 48th edition have rejoined the Princess Sofia Iberostar Trophy. On this last day, the Regata Committee has tried to give up to twice a departure for the cruise class, but it has not been possible to complete a test. The general classifications have therefore been defined by the result of yesterday's coast, with "Nadir" as winner in ORC 1, "Sirpi" in ORC 2, "Jabadaba" in ORC 3 and "Fehurihi" in ORC 4. The Dragon and J80 classes have been able to complete a test, although the wind has been decreasing in intensity. Of the 11 competing dragons, the only Portuguese representative of the fleet, the "Lady Tati" of the CN of Cascais, has taken the final victory. In J80, the Spanish class champion, Javier Chacartegui's "HM-Hotels," has not given its rivals a choice and has won the five contested tests.
A total of 646 ships and 833 Olympic class regatists, representing 53 nations, will be released tomorrow in competition in one of the most important editions of the last years of the Sofia Iberostar.

25 / 03 / 2017: spectacular day for cruises, J80 and dragons in the bay of Palma
The HM-Hotels has established leadership in the J80 class after the three wins achieved today. The biggest damage of the day has been the Viva Hotels and Vanity of Miquel Pujadas, which falls to the last position of the table after having suffered a break in the first test that has forced him to withdraw. In the second of the three trials today, the Code Zero and the Jotaheurga, second and third respectively in the provisional, have been penalized with an off-line at the exit and have not scored. This makes the HM-Hotels, with Javier Chacártegui to the cane, get an eight-point advantage that places him as a favorite to his rivals.
The good wind that has blown all day in the bay of Palma has made it possible to complete three beautiful races in the Dragon class, which have been salted with a dance of positions. The one who took the best advantage of the south-west wind today was the Lady Tati of Patrick de Barros, who, with two first and one second, is placed at the head of the class with a comfortable seven-point advantage over the second ranked, the Omni of Javier Scherk, whose best result today has been a third place. After them, Mr. de Jorge Forteza, just one point from the second, tightens the race for silver, which will be decided tomorrow.

Nice day of competition on the second day of the 48th edition of the Princess Sofia IBEROSTAR Trophy. Yesterday's blush has given way to a clear sky with intense south-west wind, with 18 knots and 21-point stockings, dream conditions to celebrate the return of the cruises to the Majorcan race. In ORC 1, Pedro Vaquer, owner of the Nadir, has proved to be a good connoisseur of the wind and the conditions of the bay of Palma in a test heading east, towards the island of Sa Porrasa. The Nadir, which has completed the tour in 2 hours 10 minutes, has been the fastest cruise of the entire fleet. The second and third positions have been achieved by the Petrouchka III, by Jaime Binimelis, and the Histolab, by José Juan Torres, who have finished the test with five minutes of difference in real time but only 10 seconds in the corrected.
The Siripi of José Matheu has achieved the first position of the ORC 2 in a very disputed race with his immediate persecutor, the Noctilula of Miguel Capllonch. Both ships have crossed the goal with only eight seconds of difference, although the offset has given an advantage of almost two minutes to the Siripi. Blue Flag, from Neus Poncell, closes the class's provisional podium.
In ORC 3, the first to cross the line of arrival has been the Jabadaba of Bernat Ripoll, followed by Lampo Rosso, Joan Jofre, and the Sirpy, armed by Azulyachts. The coast of the classes ORC 3 and ORC 4 has also been a route east, to the island of Illetas. For his part, Carlos Ros, owner of the Fehurihi, has been made with the victory in ORC 4, ahead of the Maribel, of Antonio Arnau, and the January Sails, of Gabriel Catalá.
Tomorrow, the last day of competition for the Dragon, J80 and cruises, the podium of the non-Olympic classes will be decided, which will be crowned in the award of tomorrow at 18: 00 hours at the Royal Nautical Club in Palma. On Monday the Olympic meeting will begin, with the participation of ten classes, with 669 ships and 891 registered regatists representing 56 nationalities.
24 / 03 / 2017: Omni (Dragon) and HM-Hotels (J80) command at Princess Sofia Iberostar de Vela
The first day of the 48th Princess Sofia Iberostar Trophy concluded in Palma de Mallorca, offering the first results: in the class J80, the current Spanish champion, the "HM-Hotels" patroned by Javier Chacártegui, has stood up with the victory, ahead of the "Atila" of Miquel Pujadas. In the test, which has consisted of a route of barlovento-sotavento, the German "Code Zero" by Thomas Rudewald has been placed in bronze provisionally. In Dragon class, with a total of 10 registered boats, "Omni" by Javier Scherk Serrat has been made with the victory... the class podium has been completed by the "Lady Tati," captains by Patrick de Barros, the most veteran regatist of the fleet, and the "Mr." by Jorge Forteza. On the first day of the competition of the 48th edition of the Trophy Princess Sofia Iberostar, the monotypes, the J80 and the Dragon have premiered, which have been able to complete a test despite the great blur that reigns in the bay of Palma, with rain all day long. The wind has shown itself capricious, with a morning of low intensity and an afternoon of strong peas. Even so, the race committee that has been forced to delay on the ground the beginning of the tests due to lack of wind has been able to set up a race field in conditions for each class.
23 / 03 / 2017: Palma is dressed as a gala to live the 48th Princess Sofia Iberostar Trophy of Vela
The 48th edition of the Princess Sofia Iberostar Trophy begins on Friday, with the premiere of the J80 and Dragon monotypes, to which the cruises will be added on the weekend. The three classes are based in the Real Club Náutico de Palma, where everything is already ready for the first gunshot, tomorrow at 12: 00, in the waters of Palma Bay.

The cruises, monotypes and the dragon class are the antecedent of the Olympic competition that will start to compete on Monday. In the Sofia will be in competition no less than 682 ships and 927 regatists from 56 countries in the bay of Palma
51 ships of which 33 are cruises, 13 dragons and five J80... will offer the first moments of action of this competition that cites some thousand regatists. The fleet of cruises, which this year has reintegrated into the Sofia Iberostar to create a great multi-layer sports event, has experienced a considerable increase in participation compared to last year, for its inclusion in the great ballast race and because it has been declared a Championship of Balearic Cruises ORC. The Airlan Aermec, by Joan Cabrer, in the class ORC 1-2; Mestral Fast, by Jaume Morell, in the class 3-4, and HM Hotels, by Javier Chacártegui, in the category of monotype J80, were the winners of the last edition. It is worth noting that the three teams will try to revalidate the title as they have confirmed their presence in Palma. The ORC, J80 and Dragon classes are held up until Sunday and serve as a pre-stage to the Olympic competition, which, from Monday, will bring together 682 ships and 927 regatists from 56 countries in Palma Bay.
The monotypes and Dragon will be the first to compete, starting Friday at 12: 00 in the morning. These two categories will carry out a maximum of nine tests, three per day, all of a barlovent / sotavent type. The ORC-certified cruises will join the competition on Saturday, in which they have scheduled a race of sticks, completing already Sunday with a coastal tour with exit and arrival in the bay of Palma.
22 / 03 / 2017: Official submission
The 48th edition of the Princess Sofia Iberostar Trophy, which will be held in the waters of the Bay of Palma from this Friday until Saturday April 1, has been presented this morning at the Hotel Iberostar Playa de Palma, in Can Pastilla, with broad institutional support. Representatives of the Government Delegation, the Govern Balear and the municipalities of Palma and Llucmajor have attended this event, which marks the official exit pistoletazo for "the most important annual Olympic class competition in Spain", as defined by the general director of the race, Ferran Muniesa.

Almost 700 ships and about 1,000 regatists will take part in this edition of the Majorcan race, which starts Friday for the cruise classes, J80 and Dragon, which have three days of competition in program
The race comes with several new developments, such as the return of the cruises, the opening of the traditionally female class 49er FX to mixed and male crews, and the introduction of new competition formats in various Olympic categories. Almost 700 ships and about 1,000 regatists will take part in this edition of the Majorcan race, which starts Friday for the cruise classes, J80 and Dragon, which have three days of competition in program. On Monday, March 27, the meeting begins for the Olympic classes: 470 M, 470F, 49er, FX, Finn, Laser Standard, Laser Radial, Nacra, RS: X M and RS: X F. The "Sofia" will end on April 1 with the final of each Olympic category and the trophy delivery ceremony, where the absolute winner will be crowned.
18 / 03 / 2017: Progress
About 700 ships will take part in the 48 edition of the Princess Sofia Iberostar Trophy, which starts next Friday for cruise classes, J80 and Dragon (with three days of competition in program, until Sunday), and Monday 27 for Olympic classes. The great event of the spring Mallorcan candle will end on Saturday, April 1, with the match of the finals of each Olympic category and the ceremony of trophy delivery, in which the absolute winner will be crowned. In the Olympic classes, according to the figures of confirmed entries (which will not be final until Sunday 26), 634 ships and 842 regatists from 53 countries will participate. This represents an increase in participation of 10 per cent over the past post-Olympic year (2013) and 22 per cent over the previous year (2009).

For regatta director Ferrán Muniesa: "The Princess Sofia Iberostar Trophy continues to overcome itself... this edition will be very exciting because it is the Sofia of the changes, because of the new formats of competition that we will test and because of the number of new things that are among the participating teams: changes of crew, regatists that move to another class, new faces... it always happens at the beginning of the Olympic cycle, but this year it stands out particularly."One of the most sound class changes has been that of the Brazilian Robert Scheidt. At the age of 43 and after winning 5 Olympic medals, this sport legend has changed the Laser Standard to the 49th, a particularly physical ship. Scheidt already premiered in the Skiff at the World Cup Series in Miami (watch the video that World Sailing did then), and just confirmed his inscription for the 48 Princess Sofia IBEROSTAR Trophy.
Another major change has been that of the Ukrainian Russian Olga Maslivets (it has competed for both countries). She was the winner of the previous edition in RS: X F, but this year she will join a Nacra 17, and will do so as a crew member of the Olympic bimedalist Iker Martínez and under the Spanish flag in the major sail. The new tandem was imposed on the Arenal Training Camps Trophy last weekend, though in a small fleet. For example, the Spanish team that participated in Rio 2016, that formed by Fernando Echávarri and Tara Pacheco, will be on the starting line. The ballar competition is the last noticeable test to form the Spanish pre-Olympic sailing team, the national combination of the first year of the cycle. It is expected that the two Spanish teams will be in that selection, heading for Tokyo 2020 for these two great patterns of the Spanish candle.
