The 1st edition of the Discoveries Race-Regata de los Alisios has presented its Regata Announcement. It is a commemorative race to the first Spanish and Portuguese discoverers, with departure on August 27, 2017 from Lisbon / Cascais and will have its colofon on September 3 with the award of prizes in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The journey will have a 740-mile tour for the ORC and OPEN classes in monocascos and a 1000-mile tour has also been included for the Multicasco classes (catamaran and trimaran) that have requested their participation in this new high race. The organisation according to the registered ships may create divisions within each class.

The registration period ends on July 1, 2017 and the warning signal of the departure of the Discoveries Race- Regata de los Alisios will be on August 27 at 12 noon in front of the Monument to the Discovery in Lisbon.

For the single-hull vessels ORC and OPEN the time limit for the journey will be 168 hours and for the Multicascos 144.

There will be a classification for each class in compensated time and another classification in real time.

The Discoveries Race- Regata de los Alisios is organized by the European Co-fradía de la Vela, it has the sponsorship of Isla Canela Marina, Golf & Beach Resorts and with the collaboration of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, City Hall of Las Palmas, Marina de Cascais, CN Cascais, RCN Gran Canaria, AN Lisboa, Marinha, Spanish Navy, Harbour Authority of Las Palmas, Murimar Seguridad, El Corte Inglés and WOR-60 Sportwear.

The Discovery Race 2017, which will take place from August 27 to September 3 with departure from Lisboa-Cascais and arrival in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has opened its registration period. This is a tribute to the Armed Forces of the two discoverer countries par excellence, Spain and Portugal.

The idea of this ocean journey was born through the European Vela Brotherhood at the thematic tables held on the occasion of the Research of new Cofrades in the city of Porto in September 2016, where the Cofrade Enrique Boissier presented the idea of reviving the old Brest-Las Palmas regatta, which was well received and which led a group of Cofrades to begin to mature the theme by initially focusing on creating a regatta in tribute to the two great Discovering countries in the 15th and 16th centuries as were Spain and Portugal.

The exit will take place in front of a more emblematic sites such as the Monument to the Discovery, located near the Tower of Belem in Lisbon.

This high-rise race between the Iberian Peninsula and the Canary Islands aims to promote sports, cultural and economic exchange, as well as to discover, develop and promote the understanding of friendship and equality between friends of different nationalities and who have the common passion, the sea.

Promised by the Confradía de la Vela and organized by the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria, the Club Naval de Cascais and the Associaçao Naval de Lisboa.

The European Vela Brotherhood organizes the first race of promotion of the great discoverer countries, Spain and Portugal, between Lisboa-Cascais and Las Palmas, from 755.8 nautical miles between August 27 to September 3. The race is driven by the European Sailing Brotherhood (CEV) and organized by the Cascais Naval Clube (CNC), the Lisbon Naval Association (ANL) and the Royal Nautical Club of Gran Canaria de Las Palmas (RCNGC). The objectives of the Regata are on the one hand to develop an international reference project of the Brotherhood and on the other to value the maritime culture through the great discoverers and their discoveries, bringing it to the public and especially to the young.
