An edition that has again had the best regatists of the Optimist class as it has been reflected in the inscriptions at the four headquarters: Vigo, Gran Canaria, Torrevieja and Palamós
The Club de Vela de Palamós, with the 28 Palamós Optimist Trophy-12 Nations Cup as its protagonist, closed the four-test cycle of the Optimist Excellence Cup Spanish circuit, internationally. The International Meeting of Optimist City of Vigo held from 28 to 31 October 2016 brought together a total of 249 regatists; the 31 AECIO RCN Gran Canaria Trophy, held from 27 to 29 December 2016, had a participation of 140 regatists; the X International Trophy City of Torrevieja held from 27 to 29 January 2017 had a total of 389 registered; while the Palamós meeting recorded a participation of 547 optimist.
In sports, Catalan Arnau Gelpí (CN El Balís) has taken Nacho Dávila's witness (winner in the last edition) at the Optimist Excellence Cup 2016-2017. Gelpí, who has taken part in the four tests has achieved good partial and getting good note in general. The Catalan regatist, who has been part of the national combination in 2016 at the Crotone European, achieved a hard-working triumph in Vigo. In Gran Canaria he signed a second place in the absolute general, while in Torrevieja he ended up in the 20th square and in Palamós he made it tenth, adding 369 points. In addition to the corresponding trophy, Gelpi has taken the 'special' trophy which is an Iberian ham. The canary Samuel Beneyto (RCN Gran Canaria) has been very regular and has allowed it to finish second of the OEC at only 3 points of Gelpí. Beneyto started in Vigo with the fourteenth square, in his house was made with the triumph, in Torrevieja he fired tenth and in Palamós, going up positions on the last day. He finished tenth.
On the back, completing the podium, Alberto Morales (RCN Arrecife) who together with Beneyto have been part of the Spanish team the World Class in Portugal. Morales could have finished much higher but... In Vigo and Gran Canaria he conquered two fifths, but in Torrevieja things were not very favorable to him and ended up at post 60 that was going to pay him, as it has been. Despite this, Morales has fired the OEC with a brilliant and more than deserved first place in Palamós. This has added 333 points in general. The top ten has been closed with the Belgian William Risselin, highlighting the third place in Palamós; Marian Stinga (RCN Arrecife), 12 in Vigo as the best result; Enrique Urios (RCN Valencia), highlighting the sixth place in Torrevieja (Urios represented Spain in the European of Crotone); Nacho Baltasar (CN Sa Rapita), 12 in Vigo, participating in the last two tests, sixth in Torrevieja and second in Palamós; Maxime Thommen fourth and fifth in the last two races respectively; Marina (CM) and Antonio Calrevieja in Palrevieja and 6 in the last two in Torrevieja, and in Palrevieja, and in the same in Palrevieja and in the last two in Palamós.
