The "Salvamar Arcturus," built in the shipyards of Naval Assistant of the Principality, has been an investment of 2 M €
Maritime Rescue has recently incorporated a new boat, the "Save Arcturus"which from its base port in Tarifa already operates in the Strait of Gibraltar area. This vessel replaces the "Salvamar Alkaid," who has worked hard for years from the port of Tarifa, especially in immigration-related cases, rescuing thousands of people. From now on, the Alkaid continues its work from its new base in Mazagon (Huelva). The addition of this new vessel to the Salvamento fleet, as well as that of three other salvamars that are already being built, is part of the process of updating the means envisaged in the National Salvation Plan 2010-2018. The aim is for these units to replace four of the oldest units currently operating.
The salvamars are the most versatile units of our fleet due to their high speed, high maneuverability and low quality, appropriate to act in circumstances in which the speed of response plays a fundamental role. They reach speeds above 30 knots and are built in aluminium and with low edge, which makes them appropriate to collect water shipwrecks, as well as to provide trailers and assistance. The new Salvamar has 21 meters in length and 5.5 meters in manga, has a point speed of 38 knots and 400 nautical miles of autonomy, with two engines of 1,044 kW (1,400 Cv), a medium load movement of 32.5 tons and a fixed-point shot power of 5 tons. Salvamento Marítimo has in its fleet a total of 55 vessels of this type distributed throughout the Spanish coast.
