Costa Cruises and Tarragona Cruise Port Costa Daurada have jointly presented the start of their operations. From June, the Port of Tarragona will become the base port of one of the routes through the Mediterranean of the Italian company, which is a fundamental step in the positioning of Tarragona and the Costa Daurada as a tourist destination

Costa Cruises has presented the start of its operations in Tarragona. The company has chosen the Port of Tarragona as the base port of one of its itineraries through the Mediterranean Sea. In this way, Tarragona is positioned as a port of entry and exit of cruises and also a destination for European cruises. This decision is the result of the collaboration between Tarragona Cruise Port Costa Daurada and Costa Cruises, and will allow in 2017 the Port of Tarragona to receive 25,000 passengers of different nationalities, in addition to the 15,000 that the destination had already planned. These operations will, according to the average expenditure per passenger statistics published by CLIA Spain, be a benefit for all parts of around €2,200,000.

Costa Cruises already offers its customers an exclusive cruise that will leave every Friday, between June 2 and September 22, from Tarragona. This route, which will be operated by the Costa NeoRiviera (48,200 tons of weight and capacity for 1,727 passengers), will make scales in Savona (near Genoa, Italy), Porto Torres (in the north of Sardinia), Menorca, Ibiza - Formentera and Palma de Mallorca, before ending, again, in Tarragona.

According to the planned schedule, the Costa NeoRiviera will leave the port of Tarragona on 17 occasions, these operations will mean that a total of 25,000 passengers, between cruises that embark in the city and others that will stop from other countries, will visit the city. This, together with the two raids of the Costa Favolosa ship, scheduled for September and October, means that the ships of Costa will visit the port of Tarragona up to 19 times with a total of 32,000 passengers.

The proposal of Costa Cruises in Tarragona can be complemented by a stay on the Costa Daurada. For those who prefer an option with more adrenaline, the company signed an agreement with PortAventura World in 2016. Thanks to this, passengers on this Costa route can hire a special package. With this new product, once you complete your trip in the Port of Tarragona you can extend your trip with one or two nights stay in PortAventura World with accommodation in half board, transfers, access to the park and fast- track included. In this way, the Italian shipping company seeks to offer an even more innovative and attractive travel experience.
