The Thousand Mile is a tough race. For crews and boats ready to sail for more than a week in the whimsical and unpredictable Mediterranean Sea. Only the most demanding and best prepared sailors register their palmaris in this adventure. The epic of this nautical test dates back to 1980, when it was created, and today it keeps alive this spirit of navigation and sports adventure running the charismatic 1000 miles. A race for real sea wolves. The test is one of the most significant of the Spanish nautical calendar. From its origin to the present, they have participated legendary sailors, which are part of the nautical history of our country, such as Camilo J. Cela (son), Quico Moret, Rafel Torrent, Miguel Estela, Enrique Curt, Juan Pla, and a long one. Among the sailors of today, to highlight the participation in past editions of the Twose brothers, by Alberto de Castro, who holds the record of the test, achieved in the last edition, Agustín Granell, winner last year, Miguel Nogueira, César Roch, Jose Martín, Enric Picanyol, Pepe Cernuda, among others. A race for high-rise sailors - it is the Spanish Championship of High Navigation - designed to enjoy sailing to the open horizon, for days and that want to take a step further to the 'usual coastal and to the Balearic Islands' - and cover, without scales and directly, of a single pull, the 1,000 miles in the difficult Mediterranean.
Beat the test record: 8 days, 1 hour, 42 minutes, 23 seconds
One of the attractions of the Thousand Mile, and a challenge for its participants, is to beat the record time of the test. In the last edition of 2016 the crew of the Brujo, with Alberto de Castro and José Luis Francés set a new record of the test, setting the chrono of the 1000 Miles in 8 days, 1 hour, 42 minutes, exceeding the record of the test, which was established in the second edition regata by the Font Vella of Enrique Curt and Bernat Oliva that in 1982 fixed the chrono of the 1,000 Mediterranean miles in 206 hours, 40 minutes (8 days, 15 hours, 40 minutes).
