Salvamento Marítimo rescue from a sailboat to two crew and a cat in Tenerife
The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Tenerife, under the Ministry of Development, has coordinated the rescue of the two crew members of the French sailboat Metis II, which was in the vicinity of El Socorro (Güimar) this morning. At 0530 hours a call for relief was heard - through the VHF Channel 16 - from a French sailboat on the coast of Güimar. Also at the National Centre for the Coordination of Salvamento in Madrid (CNCS), the radio station has been alerted for the same recreational boat. The Salvamar Tenerife and the Helmer 206 helicopter have been immediately mobilized. Once in contact with the sailboat, crew members have reported that water was entering them on board and could not use the life raft because they were in a rock area. Solamenye the Helimer has reached the position of the emergency, the rescue of the two crew members of the sailboat and the cat that was travelling next to them has been carried out, and they have been transferred unharmed to the airport of Tenerife Sur. The Salvamar Tenerife has gone to the area where the sailboat remains to assess the situation, finding that there are no remains of pollution in the area. The boat is stranded in a small inlet south of Punta del Socorro, with a very pronounced skier, making the reflotation operation complicated.
