"Fragatas de los años 70 a la actualidad" until February 19 in Ferrol

The official opening event was chaired by the Admiral of the Arsenal of Ferrol Javier Romero Caramel with the assistance of Navy authorities, Concello de Ferrol, Navantia, University of the Coruña and Lloyd's Register of Shipping
On December 14, the exhibition opened "Fragatas, from the '70s to the present" in the Museum of the Naval Construction (Fundación Exponav, of which the AINE is the patron) of Ferrol. In collaboration with the Spanish Navy, the Naval and Navantia Museum will remain open to the public in the Carlos III room until February 19, 2017.
The Spanish Navy's sailing frigates appeared in the 18th century as multi-purpose light vessels. Most of these units were built in the arsenals of the Peninsula and Havana. His number is over a hundred long. The arrival of the mechanical propulsion to the warships led to the emergence of the helix frigates that began to be built in the shipyards of the peninsula. between 1857 and 1859. The appearance of the battleship led to the transformation of the helix frigates into ships with armor on the side initially mounted on the wooden lining, although they were later built with the iron hull between 1863 and 1869. As early as the 20th century, in 1964, the construction of five frigates derived from the American type DE-1052, or "Knox" (Detroyer Escort), was approved, leading to the project DEG-7 (Detroyer Escort Guided Missile).
These frigates made a qualitative leap in the operational aspect by incorporating weapons, detection and communications systems in line with the designs of warships in the more developed countries. In the constructive aspect the E.N. Bazan of C.N.M., in whose yard Ferrol were built these units made a great effort of technological modernization. They were handed over to the Navy between 1974 and 1977. Later in 1977 the construction of three frigates from the American class Oliver Hazard Sperry FFG-7 (Fast Frigate Guided Missile) was approved in the Ferrol factory. The construction of three other units of the same type was approved between 1986 and 1989. The six frigates currently form the 41st Escolta Squad
Finally at the end of the 20th century, the year 1997 approved the construction of four frigates of type F-100 in the Ferrol shipyard of the E.N. Bazan de C.N.M. that in the period of construction of these frigates would be renamed "Izar Construcciones Navales" and later Navantia, and later the construction of a fifth frigate was approved including some modifications that improved the initial project. The platform project was another major qualitative leap, being fully implemented in this company. The centre of the anti-aircraft war system is the AEGIS combat system based on the AN / SPY-1D multifunction radar that had been installed until then on larger ships of the American Navy. These five frigates are currently the 31st Escolta Squad.
