Se repite la experiencia desarrollada por el BAC “Cantabria” en el año 2013

The experience developed by the BAC "Cantabria" in 2013 is repeated

The frigate 'Cristóbal Colón' (F-105), has sailed from Ferrol, heading for Australia, where from February onwards it will begin its collaboration with the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).
The deployment of the "Cantabria" BAC in Australia in 2013 was an extraordinary opportunity to test interoperability with a non-NATO navy such as the Australian Navy, and the result of the positive perception of this exchange, at the request of the RAN, is carried out, supporting the temporary lack of its escort capacity at sea, and for the entry into service of the first Australian anti-aircraft destroyer (AWD).
This deployment promotes interoperability between allies and allows for increased training and exchange of knowledge and experience, without an additional cost or a reduction in the Navy's operational capabilities. The frigate "Cristóbal Colón" will participate during its stay in the antipods in national and international exercises in Australian waters, and the boarding of personnel from the endowments of the Australian AWD destroyers is also planned. The deployment will have a planned duration of 206 days, of which 120 will remain in support of the RAN, returning to Ferrol in August.

The frigate F-105 'Cristóbal Colón' was built in the shipyards of Navantia in Ferrol. His launch, on 4 November 2010, was presided over by His Royal Highness the Infanta Doña Margarita. His surrender to the Navy took place on 23 October 2012. With a strength of 200, he has participated, inter alia, since March 2014 in Operation "Ocean Shield," joining NATO Permanent Naval Group number 2 (SNMG-2) as a command ship. The main objective of this operation is to combat piracy and maritime surveillance and security in the Indian Ocean, and NATO nation ships are involved working together with European Union and combined maritime forces from other countries.
